MG has just revealed the electric SUV eZS in the global market. Besides UK, Germany, Australia, Thailand and the Middle East, MG Motors will launch this e-SUV in India, too. The MG eZS is likely to launch in India in late-2019, possibly in December. MG eZS will not only become MG’s first EV in India but will be also among the first few electric SUVs in the country. The launch timing and the expected pricing will draw this model into to direct competition with Hyundai Kona, which will become Hyundai’s first EV in India.

MG eZS might be launched in India in December
MG eZS is based on the ZS SUV, with the latter being powered by an internal combustion engine. On the outside, the MG eZS takes several styling clues from its petrol-powered siblings. At the same dimensions as the ZS, the eZS measures almost the same as the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and even the Hyundai Kona EV. The specs of the eZS are not officially confirmed yet. But it is expected to get power from a battery pack that will put out 150 PS and 350 Nm. The promised driving range given by MG Motor is 350 km. In reality, the range could turn out to be more in the vicinity of the 300 km mark. DC fast charging, which will allow the battery pack to charge up to 80 per cent of its capacity in less than 30 minutes, will also be available.

On the feature front, the MG eZS will feature MG's iSMART Next-Gen connectivity, which is also offered on the upcoming Hector. MG eZS is expected to get loaded with various connectivity options, real-time information update as well as an emergency call feature. But unlike the 10-inch touchscreen on the Hector, the eZS will get an 8-inch unit.

In India, MG eZS will be imported through CBU (Completely Built Unit) channel. However, MG is expected to soon switch to a high level of localization for the MG eZS. The assembling of the eZS will be done at MG’s Halol plant. The price of the MG eZS is expected to be at par with Hyundai Kona at around 20 lakh. By the time MG eZS goes on sale at the end of this year, MG would have 120 dealerships and service outlets across India.
