The budget-end car segment includes a wide range of cars of many body styles – from premium hatches to small sedans and even compact SUVs. Within the sum of Rs 8 Lakhs, car buyers can get a handful of options to choose from like Tata Nexon, Honda Amaze or Maruti Swift, etc. However, one should take the pick as per their own finance, requirements and travelling purposes. On the face of it, IndianAuto worked on the compilation of Best Cars Under 8 Lakhs With Specs and Prices in both new and used car sections.
For starters, the Tata Nexon will kick off our list of cars under 8 Lakh in the Indian market. Though being the brand’s only sub-four-metre SUV in India, Tata Nexon has achieved quite a runaway success in the market so far. Tata Motors first revealed its plan to break into the compact SUVs segment with the Nexon concept in 2014 but it was until September 2017 that the final product went on sale in the country. Tata Motors has used its three years very well to roll out a smartly eye-catching rival to the hugely popular Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford Ecosport. Particularly, Tata Nexon has recently won the title of the safest car in India as it is the first locally-made car to achieve a 5-star rating from NCAP.

In the second place on our list of Best Cars Under 8 Lakhs is the country’s most-loved hatchback- the Maruti Swift. The bond has been deepened with the latest-generation Swift model which was introduced at the 2018 Auto Expo at the price starting from Rs 4.99 Lakh. Be it the most popular hatchback both inside the Indian borders and outside the country so it is not difficult to understand why the Swift is warmly welcomed in both new and used car segment. The funky hatchback looks sporty and gets a very well-appointed cabin.
The Maruti Swift gets two engines under the bonnet – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre turbocharged diesel unit. However, due to the implementation of new emission standards, the diesel-powered Swift will be discontinued soon. Currently, the gasoline burner can produce 82 BHP of power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm while the oil engine can make a maximum power of 74 BHP at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm at 2,000 rpm. What makes the Swift more special is that it offers the segment-leading fuel mileage. Available with a 5-speed MT and an optional AMT unit, the Swift delivers up to 28.40 kmpl for the diesel variants while that of the petrol models is at 21.21 kmpl. The Maruti Swift is among the most affordable hatchbacks in the market as yet. It is presently retailed at the price sticker of Rs 5.14 Lakh – 8.84 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Good news is, the Maruti Swift has once again won the ICOTY 2019, marking the only car brand to win this title three times in India.

Following the all-conquering success of Maruti Swift, the Hyundai Grand i10 (known as the second-gen i10 globally) has been the second largest-selling model in its segment. The bad blood between Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai in India has been well reflected by the competition between the Grand i10 and Swift. Hyundai first introduced the smartly-designed Grand i10 amid much fanfare in the country and it managed to attract a great number of buyers ever since its launch. The urban runabout is a complete package which is a good mix of modern style and engineering along with advanced electronic bits.
Quite obviously then, the Grand i10 is a bit ahead of its time by introducing features like engine push-button start, rear AC vents to the B+ car segment. And its all-new avatar, named the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, the car has upped the game with a refreshed and reloaded package of the existing popular offering. The new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has been launched in late August 2019 and sold alongside the existing model. Talking about the ongoing Hyundai Grand i10, the car is offered with both petrol and diesel engines with the former even being available with a 4-speed AT unit.
The Grand i10 is a well-priced car and it fits well under the price of Rs 8 Lakh mark. It is even cheaper than the competitively-priced Maruti Swift as it is being on sale at around Rs 5.79 - 6.50 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Another Maruti Suzuki car in the list of Best Cars Under 8 Lakhs With Specs and Prices is the Maruti Ignis. At launch, the Maruti Ignis created quite a buzz among the Indian car lover fraternity thanks to its SUV-like characteristics. Known as the company’s direct answer to the Mahindra KUV100, the Maruti Ignis enjoys a healthy sales volume in the new car market, paving ways to become a strong player in the second-hand car segment as well.
The Ignis is a value for the money product and its resale value is staggeringly high on the account of good qualities the car possesses. Sold through the brand’s premium NEXA outlets, the Ignis is being offered with one engine exclusively. Under the hood of the car sits a 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine as seen in the Swift sibling, good for 82 BHP of power and 113 Nm of torque. Transmission option of the car includes a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT unit.

SUVs and hatchbacks aside, we move on the sedan segment with the affordable Tata Tigor. The Tata Tigor is the sedan version of the Tata Tiago that means it inherits all the admirable traits of the popular Tiago sibling. Apart from its stylish notchback design, the Tata Tigor brings in fantastic ride quality, peppy yet fuel-efficient petrol and diesel mills, long equipment list and attractive price bracket. Currently, the Tata sedan is priced in-between Rs 5.49 Lakh – Rs 7.89 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it one of the best small cars within 8 Lakh.
Powering the sedan is either a 1.05-litre diesel engine or a 1.2-litre petrol unit which can generate 69 BHP/ 140 Nm and 84 BHP/ 114 Nm, respectively. Both Tigor’s motors score well in terms of fuel efficiency. While the ARAI-certified mileage figure of the petrol engine is at 20.3 kmpl, the oil burner achieves 24.7 kmpl. On the highway, the petrol models can deliver roughly 18.5 kmpl while the diesel variants do it with 21.5 kmpl.

The next car in our list of Best Cars Under 8 Lakhs With Specs and Prices is the Ford Freestyle. The Figo-based crossover-hatchback gives the right mix of Figo’s characteristics with modern styles and ruggedness. With its increased ride height, bespoke power steering and wider tracks, the Ford Freestyle shows that it’s much more than the jazzed-up Ford Figo essentially. The Blue Oval introduced the Freestyle cross-hatch to the Indian auto enthusiasts in 2018 with the introductory price of Rs 5.09 Lakh (ex-showroom).
It is evident that the Freestyle is not just a post-plastic surgery Figo. It gets good engines under its nice skin, including a new Dragon series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine along with a 1.5-litre diesel burner option. The petrol mill is quite punchy as it is capable of producing 94 BHP of power and 120 Nm of torque. Whereas the diesel motor puts out a power figure of 98 BHP and 215 Nm of torque.

Honda has always been a highly respected car brand in India. It is not exacerbating to say that the sales performance of the Amaze is going more dynamic than ever thanks to the introduction of the Honda Amaze. The compact family sedan is one of the biggest sales drivers of Honda in India with the car crossing the 6,000 sales milestone in May 2019, after just one year from its launch.
The major highlight in the Honda Amaze is its premium quotient. The Honda sedan gets quite a fresh urban styling along with a well-loaded cabin. Taking the design elements from the Honda City, the Amaze looks quite butch at the front with thick chrome bar on the grille while the subtle shoulder lines and attract rear end complete the look. The Honda Amaze interior is spacious and feature-rich. The dual-tone interior colour theme rolls out an upmarket feel while the range of features it gets inside do amaze us.
However, the icing on the cake of the Amaze lies under its bonnet. Apart from one petrol and one diesel engine options, the Amaze offers a continuously variable transmission on board. It becomes a boon for many car users, considering the Indian driving conditions riddled with traffic jams and potholes.

First launched in 2008, the Maruti Swift Dzire or simply known as Maruti Dzire, came as a replacement of the successful Esteem in the C1 sedan segment. However, right from the time of launch, the Maruti Dzire has turned out to be a lot more successful than its predecessor. Last year, the Maruti Dzire outclassed its own Alto sibling and became the largest-selling car of the country. The Dzire is going on sale with both petrol and diesel engines that return a nice mix of performance and fuel economy. The petrol engine of the Dzire bumps out 81 BHP of power and 113 Nm of torque while the diesel burner outputs 74 BHP of power and 190 Nm of torque. Both models are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an automated manual transmission.
The Dzire offers a decent cabin space despite the fact that is a sub-four-metre offering. Three passengers can sit comfortably on the rear seats with ample legroom. The boot space of the car is at 378 litres, big enough to carry a lot of cargo on the go. All this makes the Dzire among the Best Cars Under 8 Lakhs With Specs and Prices
What even works in favour of the Maruti Dzire is its affordable pricing. Being on sale within Rs 5.82 – 9.52 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Dzire comes as a decent value-for-money model in the competition.

Volkswagen might not be the strongest player in the Indian playground. The Volkswagen brand itself, however, is still a respected brand and some of its vehicles have managed to carve a niche for themselves in the domestic car space, especially the Volkswagen Ameo. With its three-box body styles, the VW Polo-based compact sedan comes with attractive traits of the Polo together with a larger boot. The VW Ameo employs two engine options under the hood, including a 1.0-litre gasoline engine and a 1.5-litre diesel motor unit.
The Polo-derived sedan is the last model in our list of Best Cars Under 8 Lakhs With Specs and Prices. To pick a better one, we recommend the more powerful diesel engine option which can churn out 110 BHP of power and 250 Nm of torque. Based on the Polo hatchback, the Ameo has many to offer on its board, from its solid body structure which can be felt clearly when opening and closing the door, compelling feature packages and ample interior space. These are some reason why the Ameo becomes a crowd-puller not only in the new car market but for the used one as well. You can easily find a good used Volkswagen Ameo which gets the mileage of under 25,000 at the price of under Rs 8 Lakh.
