Hyundai has recently introduced its latest sub-four-metre sedan to the Indian market, namely the Hyundai Aura. Technically, the Hyundai Aura is the next generation of the Xcent in India but still, it will be sold alongside the later model for a little while. By creating quite a bang during the course of its premiere, the all-new Hyundai Aura is expected to become a highly-competitive vehicle in the compact sedan segment.
Along with Hyundai, Honda is also a highly respected auto brand in our country. That is to say, the sales game of the Japanese company is getting higher than ever, courtesy of the arrival of the stylish compact sedan Amaze. Honda Amaze is now in its second-gen avatar, and is a definite improvement over its predecessor. Now, people are starting to wonder if the upcoming Hyundai Aura could steal the limelight of the Honda Amaze in the competition of the sedan segment. To know more about what the new Aura has to offer compared with the Honda Amaze, we put the Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze in a detailed comparison. Let's check it out!

For most of the exterior, the all-new Hyundai Aura features a styling design that reminds us about the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. However, from C-pillar onwards, the Aura sedan deviates itself from the hatchback with a well-sculpted boot and a revised rear-end. It gets a sophisticated front bumper that represents a bold look thanks to the premium satin trapezoidal grille flanked by the twin boomerang-shaped DRLs, sharp projector headlamps and angular fog lamps housings.
The rear profile of the car features C-shaped wraparound tail lamps with LED inserts and blacked-out garnish along with sculpted rear bumper. The license plate is placed on the rear bumper that should be a typical styling trait on most new Hyundai sedans, e.g the Hyundai Elantra facelift. The extended glasshouse area on the side profile of the Aura is something that we mostly see in the premium SUVs. It also comes with a set of 15-inch sporty diamond-cut alloy wheels (for the top-spec variants only) that add a bit of flair to the premium quotient of the model.
Compared with the Hyundai Aura, the Honda Amaze goes in a different styling strategy. While the bonnet of the Aura car makes it a bit chunky and hatch-ish, the Honda Amaze gets a flat bonnet featuring some slight crease lines, lending the Amaze an elegant styling. Honda cars have never been dull on their look and the same goes for the Amaze. The signature “Solid Wing” front face of the Amaze boasts of a thick-chrome grille and sleek headlamps up front, a little reminiscent of the luxury BMW i8. The rectangular fog lamps housings of the Amaze gives it a gentler visual effect compared to the aggressive angular units of the Aura.

Over the sides, the Honda Amaze comes with strong character lines running across the length of the vehicle, all the ways from the headlamps to the tail lamps. A longer hood with traditional beltline, well-proportioned greenhouse and push-backed A-pillar makes the Amaze a proper sedan. Elegance at the front is mixed well with sportiness at the rear of the Amaze thanks to the presence of subtle decklid spoiler, C-shaped taillights and creases on the bumper. Overall, while Hyundai seems to put too much focus on the aggression and lack a bit of elegance in the Aura’s exterior package, the Honda Amaze delivers a posh and elegant styling without compromising on the sportiness.

Hyundai borrows the interior design from the Nios hatchback, save for a little black and brown sputtering on the dashboard. The subcompact sedan by Hyundai offers with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a digital MID in the instrument cluster, wireless charging among others.
As for the Amaze, the new-gen Honda sedan packs a dual-tone beige-black dashboard and piano black trim that look premium right at first glance. The dashboard layout is quite conventional, with a floating Digipad 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the centre. The system is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and satellite navigation as well as Mirror Link support. There’s a range of physical buttons placed under the display while the central AC vents are placed atop it. Interestingly, the Amaze still misses out on rear AC vents but offers power outlet instead.

The Hyundai Aura is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbocharged gasoline motor that can churn out 83 PS/ 114 Nm and 100 PS/172 Nm of torque, respectively. In comparison with the petrol-powered Amaze, the car makes use of a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine tuned to make 90 PS of power and 110 PS of torque. Do note that the Hyundai Aura’s 1.2-litre petrol will be specced with a factory-fitted CNG kit later.
As for the diesel engines, the 1.5-litre engine of Honda seems to outdo the Hyundai. The Amaze’s diesel mill is capable of making two different states of tune: 80 PS/160 Nm (for the manual version) and 100 PS/ 200 Nm (for the automatic variants). Hyundai Aura, on the other hands, makes do with 75 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque from the 1.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine option.
It is worth noting that the Honda Amaze is still complying with the BSIV emission norms while the Aura is said to join the BSVI era at launch. However, Honda also confirmed its plan to upgrade the Amaze sedan to the BSVI compliance sooner rather than later ahead of the April 2020 deadline.
Currently, Honda Amaze is on sale with the price starting from Rs 5.93 Lakh and going up to Rs 9.79 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As for the Hyundai Aura, it has been priced between Rs 5.79 lakh and Rs. 9.22 lakh (ex-showroom, estimated).

Hyundai Aura brings plenty of things to the table, such as a radical styling, premium cabin, potent engine options. As such, the Hyundai sedan gets an edge over its rival in the competition. The Honda Amaze is the most cost-effective Honda cars on offer in India at present, although it is a little more expensive. Honda has excelled in keeping the pricing right for the Amaze, posing a major challenge for its rivals. Its CVT option also gives the sedan a huge edge over the Aura which is only available with a slower (compared to CVT) automated manual transmission. With a striking appearance, segment-first diesel-CVT configuration, high level of refinement, good driving comfort and dynamics along with decent fuel efficiency, the Amaze comes off as a better deal. We leave our judgement there and let our dear readers decide which car will make it worth their while.
