1. Brand overview

Hyundai is the second largest car manufacturer in the Indian automobile market. Ranking just after the market-leading Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai has retained its significant position in the market over the last two decades.

Hyundai was founded in 1967 in South Korean. The South Korean car brand entering the Indian market in 1998 with the launch of the Hyundai Santro. The small hatchback was warmly welcomed by the local customers and became a huge success for the car brand. Hyundai Santro has paved the way for Hyundai’s prevailing business in India.

Hyundai has constantly built up its reputation with high quality vehicles and innovative technologies. Besides, the South Korean car firm also gains trust from customers thanks to its excellent aftersales service. According to the 2018 JD Power Indian Customer Service Index Study, Hyundai was ranked first in terms of aftersales customer satisfaction. Hyundai has established a large network of dealerships and service centres across the country. It is estimated that Hyundai has around 1,300 service points and 495 dealerships, along with a R&D facility in Hyderabad.

Currently, Hyundai India is headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The South Korean car manufacturer has two production plants in Irangattukotai and Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu). These two facilities have the combined annual production capability over 7 lakh units. Besides supplying for the domestic market, Hyundai’s facilities also provides vehicles for exporting.

2. Hyundai Models

Hyundai’s existing line-up in the India market has 11 models allotted in almost every segment in the market, from SUV, sedans, hatchbacks to MPV. Hyundai latest cars includes Hyundai Santro, Grand i10, Xcent, Elite i20, i20 Active, Verna, Venue, Creta, Elantra and the Tucson and Hyundai Kona EV. At the moment, Hyundai Santro is offered as the entry-level vehicles while the Hyundai Tucson is available as the flagship model of the South Korean carmaker in India. Hyundai Kona EV is currently the only electric car in Hyundai’s India portfolio.

In the near future, Hyundai is preparing for the launches of other vehicles like new-gen Hyundai Elite i20 and new-gen Hyundai Tucson.

3.1. Hyundai Santro

Hyundai Santro, as well all know, is the oldest nameplate on Hyundai’s portfolio in the Indian market. The hatchback was discontinued in 2015 and then returned to the market in 2018. Hyundai Santro is now available at the price range starting from Rs 4.57 lakh to Rs 6.25 lakh (ex-showroom).

The entry-level hatchback is offered exclusively with a BSVI-compliant 1.1-litre 4-cuylinder petrol engine which generates around 69 PS and 99 Nm. This engine comes with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.

3.2. Hyundai Grand i10

Hyundai Grand i10 is the most successful hatchback in Hyundai’s Indian line-up. The South Korean car brand is offering one engine which is a BSVI-compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, this engine is good for 83 PS and 114 Nm.

The popular hatchback is available from Rs 5.89 lakh to Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai Grand i10 is competing against the likes of Maruti Ignis, Maruti Swift, Tata Tiago and more.

3.3. Hyundai Venue

Hyundai Venue is the newest SUV from the South Korean carmaker. Launched in May 2019, Hyundai Venue has constantly gained the huge success and become a major runner of this best-selling segment.

Hyundai Venue is offered with a wide range of powertrain options, including a 1.2-litre petrol engine (83 PS/114 Nm), 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine (120 PS/171 Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (100 PS/240 Nm). Each engine option is available with different transmission choices. Notably, Hyundai just recently introduced a new iMT option into the range of Hyundai Venue. The compact SUV is available in six variants, E, S, S+, SX, SX+ and SX (O). Ti si available from Rs 6.7 lakh to Rs 11.4 lakh.

3.4. Hyundai Creta

Hyundai Creta is the most successful SUV ever launched by Hyundai. This SUV has dominated the compact SUV space ever since its entrance to the market. With spacious interior room, excellent driving comfort and well-equipped interior and impressive performance, Hyundai Creta has been a no brainer for the customers of this segment.

Recently, Hyundai has upgraded the Creta to a new version with new styling and features. The best-selling SUV is currently available at the price ranging from Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 17.2 lakh. It is offered with three engine options, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (115PS/144Nm), a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (140PS/242Nm), and a 1.5-litre diesel (115PS/250Nm). The turbo petrol is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The other two engines share the same 6-speed manual gearbox. While the 1.5-litre petrol gets an additional CVT, the diesel unit is offered with 6-speed torque converter.
