I. Used Cars in Bangalore: Some notes

1. Bangalore car market: How is it operating?

The auto market in Bangalore is one of the largest automobile industries in India. The city is the centre of most manufacturing units in the Indian auto industry. Besides this, the used car section is also contributing a great part to the development of the Bangalore car market with a recently developed wide network system for second-hand cars. Special schemes for the used cars exchange have recently been launched by Hyundai and Ford and next is General Motors.

Both the car owners and the auto-finance companies are participating in this exchange program. The pre-owned car market has now developed to become larger than even the new one and is controlling the whole car market in Bangalore to limit the fall in the market, thanks to the former’s impressive sales number of up to 30 cars a month.

2. How to buy a second-hand car in Bangalore?

Car buyers who choose to buy a used car are often in a limited budget. Therefore, there are some tips for you to find cheaper cars in Bangalore.

  • Cars with smaller motors have a tendency to be more affordable and more fuel-efficient;
  • Cars with petrol motors are often cheaper than diesel ones;
  • Manual cars are more reasonably-priced than their automatic counterparts;
  • Smaller cars tend to be cheaper to insure;

Some tips on the general used car buying process in Bangalore are also available as below.

  • Firstly, you should check your requirements: whether you want to drive the car for long journeys on the highway or just for short trips around the city, do you want amber cabin space, do you want powerful engines, etc.
  • Then, determine the time of your purchase. You can enjoy great benefits since the dealers usually have to fulfil their quarterly sales target.
  • Next, examine how much the car will cost you, besides the price of the used car itself. The fuel cost, the finance repayments, the tax, the insurance and the servicing are a few types of cost to name.
  • You should visit at least several dealerships to check the options in person. You had better compare the options with each other before making the final decision.
  • Always be ready to bargain with the seller over the price by finding flaws with the second-hand cars. Remember not to praise them too much.
  • Last but not least, do not forget to test drive the car to determine its actual worth and be also to be sure about the operation and the safety of the vehicle.

II. Which are the Cheapest Used Cars in Bangalore?

Not surprisingly, one of the most affordable second-hand cars in Bangalore is the Maruti 800. The vehicle has been discontinued and received an update earlier this year with many upgraded features and new engine technologies with the latter helping it become totally compliant with the upcoming BS-VI emission standards. The facelifted version has also discarded the suffix ‘800’ from the name of the car and changed it to Maruti Alto. Nevertheless, until the stricter norms come into effect, the Maruti 800 continues to be one of the most popular hatchbacks in the used car market.

Next is the Hyundai Accent. Although the sedan’s production has been shelved due to its failure to attract the buyers. The reason for this is that the South Koeran automaker did not give it a facelift in time, making it the oldest vehicle in its segment. Nevertheless, it still remains its position in the second-hand car market as one of the most popular sedans.

III. Which are the Best Second-hand SUVs in Bangalore?

SUVs or any types of cars that look like an SUV are a favorite choice of numerous Indian auto buyers not only in the new car market but also the used one. The Indian people love SUVs because of their aggressive appearance, unequaled ground clearance, impressive off-roading capabilities, and amber cabin. However, since India is such a price-sensitive market, many of the auto customers who are in a limited budget will need to think twice before making a decision to buy a new SUV which usually costs at least INR 6 lakh. Nevertheless, the decision is much simpler to be made when it comes to the pre-owned SUVs which are offered with great availability in many cities under different prices. The table below provides you with five top used SUVs in Bangalore with their minimum prices on IndianAuto.

IV. How a Second-hand Car can be Used in Bangalore?

The RTO regulations for a used car ownership transfer can vary, depending on your location; however, the rules are generally as follows:

Once buying the car, you have to inform the local RTO of the car selling and apply for the ownership transfer no later than after 14 days. The required documents include the registration certificate, residential proof, pollution-under-control certificate (PUC), Form 29, Form 30, Form 28 (not mandatory for car transfer within one state) and report of N.C.R.P. The ownership transfer usually costs you around INR 30 for each car. You had better do the work by yourself since getting it done by an agent will cost you much money.

The Indian government has officially announced that any cars which are over 15 years old need to be scrapped. Generally, there are some steps involved in the process of scrapping a car.

  • Informing the RTO of your old car scrapping;
  • Handing over the RC and chassis plate to the RTO;
  • De-registering your old car: After all the documents are accepted, your old car will be a scrapped car, removed from the records of RTO and can be cut into pieces or melted down.

If you want to sell your scrapped car, you will have to give an RC copy and the bank NOC to the purchaser. Get the chassis plate back and follow the same process specified above.
