The Tata Tigor has been so successful in the India hatchback segment that the home-grown automaker has decided to manufacture the Tata Tigor EV. Let’s see what to expect from this new EV.

The Tata Tigor is well-known with Indian auto customers for its fashionable exterior and impressive performance. The forthcoming Tata Tigor EV is expected to inherit both of these plus points and have dimensional features which are harmonious with the current model. Yet some tweaks to the exterior and the interior will still be made. Especially, with this new EV, Tata is going to offer Indian car customers another option of EV and penetrating in the EV potential market in India.

1. Tata Tigor EV Exterior

The exterior of the Tata Tigor EV will be given several modifications in terms of design to differentiate itself from other variants in the line-up.

In the front, the vehicle will feature newly-designed bumpers, facelifted headlights, a black radiator grille and a glossier bonnet. A badge with the word EV will also be stuck to the front end.

In the side profile, the car receives EV decals in blue, the fashionably-edged right fender with a blue EV symbol, black housings of ORVM and 15-inch alloy wheels with blue highlights.

Finally, coming to the rear, the features include a new bumper cladding, refreshed tail lamps, chrome badging on the tailgate, stop lamps which are highly mounted and a ‘Powered by Electra EV’ decal.

Dimensions

The Tata Tigor EV will be 3992 long, 1677 wide and 1537 high.  Being a compact sedan with a kerb weight of 1156 kgs (Est.), it will have a 2450-mm wheelbase, and a 170-mm ground clearance and a 419-litre boot space.

Safety features

The safety kit of the Tata Tigor EV is expected to include twin airbags, electronic stability program, pedestrian protection system and parking assist system including parking camera and parking sensors. In terms of the braking system, the new EV will be equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. It will be a regenerative braking system to convert heat energy created during braking to electric pulses for the battery charging.

Space and seating

The cabin of this compact sedan can accommodate up to 5 people. The driver seat’s heights can be electrically adjusted; all the passengers’ seats are provided with adjustable headrest. All of these contribute to the flexibility of the vehicle.

3. Tata Tigor EV Performance

Engine

The Tata Tigor EV is expected to be powered by a three-phase electric engine which can deliver 40bhp. The electric engine is based on Electra EV which receives power from a 216Ah battery. The battery can churn out a 130-km driving range with a maximum speed of 100km/h. You can use a standard charger to charge the battery in six hours with 80% of the battery charged in only 90 minutes. The transmission option will be the single-speed AMT gearbox. Actually, the real torque and power will depend on the final configuration of the vehicle.

The Tata Tigor EV is expected to have a mileage of 100km per 100% charge. Factors affecting the distance/charge include vehicle dynamics, car maintenance and kerb weight. Generally, a distance coverage range of 80km to 100km can be anticipated.
