2020 Hyundai Verna comes with three BS6-compliant engine options, updated styling and more features
Just days before the initiation of nation-wide lockown, it was reported that the 2020 Hyundai Verna (facelift), which carries three BS6-compliant engine options, has reached dealer. Now, a report claims that the new model is actually very close to the launch and that its prices would start at Rs 9.3 lakh*. This is a clear increment of Rs 1.13 lakh over the starting price of the current model, which is pegged at Rs 8.17 lakh*.
The difference in prices doesn't come as a surprise. The Verna will be no longer available with the entry-level 1.4-litre petrol engine. In fact, even the high-strung 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines have been axed. Instead, the new model wil be now sold with 115hp 1.5-litre petrol and diesel motors along with a Venue-sourced 120hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The 1.5 petrol will be available with two transmission options - 6-speed manual and IVT, while the 1.5-litre oil-burner will be sold with a 6-speed manual. The 1.0 turbo-petrol will come mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic unit.
The advent of newer engines that are cleaner than the outgoing motors alone accounts for the steep price increment. The new Verna will be sold in three trims - S, SX and SX(O) - and the turbo-petrol engine will be available only in the top-of-the-line variant. Aesthetically, the 2020 Hyundai Verna facelift looks close to the Russia-spec model, which is sold under the Solaris nameplate. The updated sedan faetures a more striking front-end with revised headlights, wider grille and better scultped bumper. The side profile gets new mag wheels, while the rear features updated taillamps and bumper. The interior has a new touchscreen infotainment unit and new airvents. The top-spec trim even gets an all-digital instrument cluster.
Based on the tirm you choose, the 2020 Hyundai Verna SX(O) will have up to 12 first-in-segment features, including Bluelink connected apps, emergency stop signal, 10.67-inch TFT display all-digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, driver rear view monitor, smart-opening trunk, twin tip muffler tip, rear USB charger, ECO coating for aircon, Arkamys sound driver and luggage net and hooks. Other than this, the car also gets TPMS, sliding front armrest and dark chrome finish on the radiator grille.
The 2020 Hyundai Verna will be available with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options that will output 115 PS each, while the top-spec 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor will offer 120 PS. The 1.5-litre petrol motor is available with two transmission options – 6-speed manual and IVT, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol option will come mated to a 7-speed DCT.
