The difference in prices doesn't come as a surprise. The Verna will be no longer available with the entry-level 1.4-litre petrol engine. In fact, even the high-strung 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines have been axed. Instead, the new model wil be now sold with 115hp 1.5-litre petrol and diesel motors along with a Venue-sourced 120hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The 1.5 petrol will be available with two transmission options - 6-speed manual and IVT, while the 1.5-litre oil-burner will be sold with a 6-speed manual. The 1.0 turbo-petrol will come mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic unit.

The advent of newer engines that are cleaner than the outgoing motors alone accounts for the steep price increment. The new Verna will be sold in three trims - S, SX and SX(O) - and the turbo-petrol engine will be available only in the top-of-the-line variant. Aesthetically, the 2020 Hyundai Verna facelift looks close to the Russia-spec model, which is sold under the Solaris nameplate. The updated sedan faetures a more striking front-end with revised headlights, wider grille and better scultped bumper. The side profile gets new mag wheels, while the rear features updated taillamps and bumper. The interior has a new touchscreen infotainment unit and new airvents. The top-spec trim even gets an all-digital instrument cluster.
