2020 Mahindra Thar interior has been spotted with a front-facing second row of seats instead of the side-facing units that are available on the current model

Next year, Mahindra will take the wraps off the much-awaited next-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar. The new version of this legendary SUV was spied for a couple of times recently, thereby suggesting that the home-grown carmaker is reaching the final stage in developing the new Thar. The upcoming model is expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Spy pictures of the new Thar reveal an extensively revised exterior. The signature style of the Thar with the boxy design and rugged look still lingers on. However, newly-added details lend a fresh and modern vibe to the updated version.

For example, the familiar round headlamps, grille unit as well as ORVMs and taillights will be heavily restyled while the wheel arches are more pronounced, which should help the vehicle offer an improved off-roading capability. Mahindra Thar will get better not only in styling but also in interior comfort. As revealed earlier, Mahindra Thar will get front-facing seats for the second row, in place of the side-facing setting on the current model. Recently, this feature was captured on a set of spy pictures published on MotorBeam.

The interior of the 2020 Mahindra Thar, as seen in the spy shots, will be substantially more premium. Besides the second-row front-facing seats mentioned above, the interior will also feature better equipment. Notably, owning to the extended dimensions, the interior will also get more space. The new Mahindra Thar is expected to be offered in both soft top and hardtop version. Under the hood, Mahindra will ditch the old 2.5-litre diesel engine and replace it with an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine. This engine could be found doing powering duties on the XUV500 and the next-gen Scorpio. The new motor complies with the upcoming stringent BSVI emission norms. It is expected to offer a higher level of refinement and punchiness.

Launched almost a decade ago, Mahindra Thar has attracted a larger following thanks to its robust look and a competent off-road capability. In India, the SUV does have a unique selling point which, regardless of market ups and downs, still remains a solid competitor in the market.
