Jeep Compass Sport Plus is a newly-added variant to the Jeep Compass line-up. The price of the Sport Plus starts at Rs 15.99 lakh

Jeep has added a new variant to the trim range of the India-spec Jeep Compass. Called Jeep Compass Sport Plus, the new version is priced at Rs 15.99 lakh and 16.99 lakh for petrol and diesel model respectively. At this price, the Sport Plus sits above the entry-level Sport variant. Sport Plus comes at an extra cost of up to Rs 59,000 over the Sport variant. Probably, the Sport Plus will get more features as well. On the outside, Jeep Compass Sport Plus gets a 16-inch silver coloured alloy wheel, black roof rails and a tailgate-mounted badge that reads “Sport Plus”. The rear windshield will get black cladding. Additionally, the variant will gain parking sensor which is not available on the entry-level Sport grade

Jeep Compass Sport Plus will get more equipment than the base Sport variant

Inside the Jeep Compass Sport Plus, it features dual-zone climate control and a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Its safety kit is on par with the higher-spec Longitude variant with dual front airbags, ABS, ESC and traction control. However, it lacks 7.0-inch infotainment screen, keyless entry and go, power folding wing mirror and larger 17-inch alloy wheels.

Under the hood, Compass Sport Plus comes with the same offers available on the base Sport variant. It will be powered by either a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel. These engines are good for 163 bhp and 173 bhp respectively. Both are mated to the standard 6-speed manual transmission. At this grade, the all-wheel-drive system is not available.

The addition of the new Sport Plus will extend the lower-end range of the Jeep Compass, offering more choice for the customers with a limited budget. Plus, the current launch of the Tata Harrier seems to push Jeep to step up their game with a new reasonably-priced variant. Tata Harrier is priced aggressively, over Rs 3 lakh cheaper than the Jeep, posing a real threat to the Compass.

Currently, Jeep is working on the top-spec TrailHawk for India market. This off-roading focused model will be powered by a 2-litre diesel engine. Also, it will be packed with a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Other mechanical tune-ups will also be updated to enhance its off-roader capacity.
