Mahindra has eventually introduced the brand-new Alturas G4 to the Indian auto market at an introductory price of Rs 26.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). It serves as an alternative to the previous 7-seater SUVs such as the Honda CR-V and the Skoda Kodiaq.

Mahindra Alturas G4 is the most recent SUV product by the home-grown car maker and is intended to be a flagship product of the company. In the previous post, even before the launch of the Alturas G4, we have compared in details the vehicle with its rivals: Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, both of which have dominated the Indian SUV segment for a long time. In this post, we have decided to shift the focus to the other two rivals of the Alturas G4, the less well-known SUVs but prove to be formidable rivals of the new Alturas: the Skoda Kodiaq and the Honda CR-V. Let come to a detailed comparison among the three vehicles: Mahindra Alturas G4 vs. Honda CR-V vs. Skoda Kodiaq to see how can the Alturas compete against the others, which can further persuade you to buy one.

1. Exterior and Design

Dimensions

In terms of the proportions, the Alturas G4 dominate the other two SUVs with the greatest length, width, height, wheelbase, ground clearance and kerb weight, which translates into an impressive road presence. The Honda CR-V appears to be the smallest vehicle regarding the length, width, kerb weight and wheelbase, though a little bit higher than the Kodiaq.

 Ground Clearance  244mm (unladen)  188mm  N/A
 Kerb weight  2050kg/ 2150kg  1799kg  1666kg/ 1725kg

Design

The body creases, the high ground clearance and the large 18-inch wheels all contribute to the imposing appearance of the Alturas G4. Despite being the smallest of all the SUVs, the Kodiaq compensates for this with a unique exterior design. The sharp body lines and the gorgeous wheels contribute to the premium appearance of the Kodiaq in comparison with the Alturas G4. As for the CR-V, Honda has also equipped its vehicle with a chrome grille, futuristic-look headlamps, large tail lamps and beautifully designed bumpers, all of which add to its attraction.

The Alturas G4 has the most powerful engine of the three vehicles with a 2.2L diesel motor, which can produce 180PS of max power and 420 of peak torque in comparison with the 2.0L unit, which can deliver 150PS/340Nm on the Skoda Kodiaq and the 1.6L engine, which can churn out 120PS/300Nm on the Honda CR-V. Both of the Alturas G4 and the Skoda Kodiaq diesel engines are mated to a 7-speed AT unit while the transmission duties on the Honda CR-V are implemented by a 9-speed AT unit.

4. Price

The Skoda Kodiaq is the most expensive of all the three vehicles; the Alturas is the most affordable one. Despite being equipped with less powerful motor, the base variant of the Kodiaq is priced even more highly than the top variant of the Alturas.

5. Conclusion

The CR-V and the Kodiaq loses in the competition in terms of the dimensions and power with the new Alturas. However, these two vehicles are more attractive than the Alturas G4 with a more beautiful appearance and cabin. In this case, it is totally up to you to choose one of them. The best course of action we recommend is to consider everything carefully, the features, the performance, the price of all the three vehicles before making the final decision.
