Toyota Glanza keeps the original powertrain employed on the Maruti Baleno. It comes with the same 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine and a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine. While the former is capable of making 83 Bhp, the latter develops a maximum power output of 90 Bhp. Especially, the DualJet engine comes with a mild hybrid system. This hybrid variant is available at Rs 7.22 lakh, making it the most affordable car with mild hybrid setting in India. Prior to Toyota Glanza, Maruti Baleno hybrid was the cheapest in the market. Also, Toyota also introduces better warranty offers for the Glanza. Customers of the Glanza are benefited with a three-year/1,00,000km warranty while the Baleno customers are offered with a two-year/40,000km warranty.

Besides the cheaper price tag, Toyota Glanza’s hybrid version is more powerful than Maruti Baleno’s version. DualJet’s power output is higher Maruti Baleno’s unit by 7 hp. Notably, the DualJet engine combines the use of hybrid system and the dual injector setting for each cylinder to deliver a better fuel efficiency. Under test condition, this engine is able to deliver a fuel mileage of 23.87 kmph against 21.01 kmph on the regular Maruti Baleno.

After the Toyota Glanza, Toyota will launch the rebadged version of the Maruti Brezza in the sub-four-meter segment. Maruti Brezza has been a segment-leading model in its space for a long time. Even though its long standing dominant position is threatened by new models like Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, the huge success of the Brezza is expected to bring profit for the Toyota rebadged model. Toyota’s version of the Ciaz and Ertiga will be the next in line. The launch dates of upcoming rebadged models remains to be seen. Keep updateed with latest car news by visiting IndianAuto.com.
