Maruti WagonR To Be Available in Four Options, But No Diesel Engine

New Maruti Suzuki Wagon will be launched within one month. And this new version will come with four powertrain options - petrol, LPG, CNG and Electric.

The upcoming years will be a new phase for Maruti’s hot-selling hatchback, Maruti WagonR, as it will experience changes and additions to match the increasing demand in the market. Maruti aims at providing a wide range of choices for WagonR’s buyers and extending its market. The first step is to offer various fuel options. They have confirmed that WagonR will finally come with four powertrain option which includes petrol, LPG, CNG and Electric.

With the internal combustion engines, Maruti will come with the petrol engine only. The same 1-litre K-Series petrol engine is brought toward the new version. The output remains the same, 67bhp and 90Nm. Besides petrol, other fuel options include LPG and CNG. LPG and CNG could not bring in as much power as petrol option.

On the transmission, Maruti WagonR is likely to be paired with a 5-speed manual unit, with a 5 speed AMT option will also be available.

The much-awaited electric version of the WagonR is due to arrive by 2020. Maruti will join the EV segment with other carmakers like Tata with their Tata Tiago and Tigor EV, Mahindra with the eKUV100. To compete in this rising segment, Maruti will offer the car at a very competitive price along with a practical range which is expected to be about 150 to 200 kilometres. This will be Maruti’s first attempt in the electric cars segment.

What’s more, when the BSVI comes, Maruti as long as other manufacturers will have to rework their powertrain in order to make their models in line with the upcoming norms. Accordingly, WagonR will be likely to the first car to undergo such rework. Besides, safety features like airbags, ABS and EBD, reverse parking sensors will come as standard across the range.
