Unlike what was rumoured, the Maruti Alto 800 is here to stay for now, albeit, with a minor facelift and additional safety features

In response to the new stringent safety and BSVI emission norms, Maruti, the largest car manufacturer in India, will lead a massive overhaul across its product range. Maruti Alto 800 is among the first names on the list. Previously, it was believed that Maruti will discontinue the Alto 800. The discontinuation of the Alto 800 looked likely due to the concern of high cost for updating the engine to meet the new emission standard. However, as a matter of fact, Maruti doesn’t seem to be in a mood to let go of its popular model as an updated version of the Alto 800 has started reaching the dealership stockyards, thereby hinting at an imminent launch.

Other than a range of additional safety features, the Maruti Alto 800 even gets some exterior styling updates.

The 2019 Maruti Alto 800 comes with a driver-side airbag and ABS across the range. It also gets EBD, reverse parking sensor, front seatbelt reminder and high-speed alert. Also, Maruti has taken this opportunity to give the hatchback some refreshed visual elements. Revamped bumper and new grille will spice up the front-end a fair bit. The new Maruti Alto 800 is also seen with a sporty new mesh honeycomb air intake. The side profile continues unchanged, while the rear-end gets refreshed tail lamps. Also, in place of the Alto 800 badge, we will see Alto badge only.

The refreshed Maruti Alto 800 should launch in the coming days. It is likely to command a slight price premium over the outgoing version.

On the inside, the car gets the same steering wheel as the Alto K10, while the dashboard gets a new dual-tone dashboard. With such updates, expect to see the Alto 800 get a bit costlier. We're expecting a price premium of roughly Rs. 30,000. The outgoing Maruti Alto starts at Rs. 2.67 lakh. Soon, the company is expected to replace the current Alto range with a Concept Future S-based model.
