Toyota has introduced the newest version of the current-gen Land Cruiser Prado in the Australian market, where the updated Land Cruiser Prado now comes with a couple of additional features along with a new diesel engine. The shared engine in question here is a 2.8-litre four-cylinder 1GD-FTV turbo diesel engine. This motor makes a maximum power of 204 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm. Apart from the Toyota Fortuner and the Land Cruiser Prado, this engine is also powering the facelifted Toyota Hilux pickup truck. There are rumours that this pickup truck might enter the India market in the near future.

As for the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, the newly-added diesel engine is available across the range including four trims, GX, GXL, VX and top-spec Kakadu. This engine is built with optimized pistons and rings, ball-bearing turbocharger and bigger turbine and impeller, updated cooling, revised exhaust, and better injection flow rate.

The new 2.8-litre diesel engine is paired exclusively to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Moreover, the fuel efficiency for the Toyota Fortuner has improved, now rated at 7.9 litres/100 kms against 8.0-litre/100 kms as in the previous version. Toyota also provides a four-wheel-drive system, diesel particulate filter and variable flow control hydraulic steering across the line-up of the new Land Cruiser Prado.
