It is reported that the seventh-gen Chevrolet Camaro might be the last generation of the iconic muscle car

According to some established automobile news outlets, the seventh-gen Chevrolet Camaro is likely to be the last model to be sold under the iconic nameplate. Previously, it was known that GM was in the process of developing the seventh generation of the Chevrolet Camaro. Allegedly, sources inside GM suggest that all plans of developing a new-gen Camaro have been suspended and the sixth-gen models will continue to be on sale until 2023.

The above would mean the end for the Chevrolet Camaro. The company has put out its statement about the end of the pony car Camaro. According to which, the car manufacturer refuses to “engage in speculation” and promise to update all its stakeholders about the Camaro at a later stage. The company has earlier said, “An all-new LT1 model will provide customers V8 power with the design and affordability of our LT trim. The award-winning SS model will feature a new front fascia from the Camaro Shock concept”.

Sixth-gen Chevrolet Camaro will continue until 2023

It is not the first time that Chevrolet Camaro has seen discontinuation. In the past, the Chevrolet Camaro was halted in 2009. After being revived for the first time, the Camaro received instant success. However, in recent years, the sales of the Camaro were constantly dropping, after the launch of the sixth-gen model in 2016. Last year, only 51,000 units of the Camaro was sold. The 2019 facelift which was supposed to fix the problem even makes the matter worst. New Camaro fails to capture the customers' attention and receives controversial responses. In 2020, it is expected that Chevrolet will pull out the last card which is another facelift. Notably, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro’s rivals, is also falling in sales, but insignificantly.

The recent Chevrolet Camaro is not doing well in terms of sales

The ongoing Camaro is underpinned by the Alpha platform which was also used on the cancelled Cadillac ATS and CTS. This platform will be ceased and replaced by a new A2XX platform. It also means that if Camaro is killed off, we will no longer see the Alpha platform.

At the moment, it is not certain if Chevrolet Camaro will face the axe or will be retained. However, it is possible that GM will observe the Camaro’s performance for another year to finally decide to keep it or leave it.
