Ford EcoSport is one of the oldest contenders in the sub-4m compact-SUV space. It was launched in the Indian market in 2013 and received a mid-life refresh in the year 2017. After being on sale for almost nine years now, the EcoSport is due for a generation change. However, recently two units of Ford EcoSport were spotted on roads around Ford’s Chennai-based manufacturing facility by David Shanthakumar. Interestingly, these cars were not wearing any camouflage, whatsoever. Also, these were different variants of the Ford EcoSport – Trend and S.

While the Trend trim featured black door handles and steel wheels, the S trim gets 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and body-coloured door handles. It also featured roof rails. Since Ford has recently revamped the variant line-up of the EcoSport, it is expected that carmaker is planning to introduce the option of a downsized turbo-petrol motor in the EcoSport. Earlier, the Ford EcoSport was speculated to go on sale with Mahindra’s mStallion turbo-petrol engine. And all thoughts are directed in this direction with these spy shots.

The mStallion turbo-petrol powerplant made its public debut in the Mahindra XUV300 Sportz, which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. With a displacement of 1200 cubic centimetres, the mStallion motor can develop 130 HP against 230 Nm. The mStallion motor will come mated to a 6-speed MT only, initially. The option of a 6-speed AMT might come at a later stage. But since Ford and Mahindra have parted ways now, we doubt if Ford will be using the mStallion turbo-petrol motor in the EcoSport.
