Ford India plans to launch an all-new C-SUV by late-2021. It will compete with the likes of Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Jeep Compass.

As we have reported earlier, Ford Motors and Mahindra are jointly working on three new SUVs for the Indian market. The first vehicle will be an all-new C-segment SUV, which will rival with the likes of Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Jeep Compass. The upcoming C-SUV will be based on the front-wheel-drive-monocoque platform which will also underpin the new-gen Mahindra XUV500. Moreover, the all-new SUV will be manufactured at Mahindra’s production facility, which means the upcoming Ford SUV will produced alongside the next-gen XUV500.

The upcoming Ford C-SUV will share most of its mechanical components and interior features with the XUV500. Nevertheless, the American automaker will tweak the chassis and suspension system of the its SUV to offer Ford-like driving dynamics. Earlier, the reports suggested that the upcoming C-segment SUV will share around 75% of its components with the new-gen XUV500. The SUV is expected to be powered by two different powertrain options- a 2.0-litre four-pot turbocharged oil-burner and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol mill.

The former will produce 180bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque, while the latter will churn out 190bhp of peak power and 330 Nm of twisting force. Both the engine options will come with manual and automatic transmission options. Initially, the new Ford C-SUV will be launched as a 5-seater car, but we expect the carmaker could later launch the 7-seater version.

The new-gen Mahindra XUV500 is expected to launch in the first half of next year. It will be the third all-new product from the homegrown carmaker, after the new generation models of the Thar and the Scorpio. The second generation of the XUV500 should help its carmaker recover some lost ground in the segment. On the other hand, the upcoming Ford C-segment SUV should be revealed by mid-2021 and launch by the end of next year. The joint venture is also working a smaller model to take on the hot-selling compact SUVs.
