The first compact SUV to be produced by Hyundai, internally known as the Hyundai QXi, will be called the Hyundai Venue. The new model will be launched in May 2019.

Although the Hyundai QXi is often associated with the name “Styx”, the South Korean automaker has just announced that its first compact SUV will be called the Venue. According to Hyundai, the name Venue has a special meaning. It refers to a “place where people want to be seen, or in this case, inside the vehicle. The Venue symbolises a third space which is trendy, unique, stylish and perfect for Hyundai’s newest connected SUV".

In our previous post, we have informed you that the Hyundai Venue will be officially debuted in New York Motor Show and India on April 17 at the same time ahead of its launch in May 2019. Once launched in India, it will participate in the teeming Indian under-4-meter compact SUV segment currently dominated by Maruti Vitara Brezza.

Actually, the Hyundai Venue is expected to look like a mini version of its elder brother, the Hyundai Creta. In the front, it will sport the signature cascading grille of Hyundai as the most prominent feature. Besides, it will also get a multi-tier lighting setup that the carmaker calls 'Composite Light'.

According to the quote from Hyundai above, the Venue has been referred to as a “Connected SUV”. The reason for this is perhaps the vehicle will be replete with numerous connectivity technologies. To be more specific, it is expected to get a wide touchscreen infotainment setup which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Moreover, a telematics application will also be equipped on the Hyundai Venue to provide the driver with the car condition and driving style rating.

Moreover, the cabin of the Hyundai Venue will also come with a dual-tone paint scheme, a high-quality dashboard and segment-leading ventilated front seats. The sunroof, which is a popular feature of SUVs in India will also appear on the compact SUV, as confirmed by the latest teaser.

When launched in India, the Hyundai Venue is likely to keep under its hood three motor options. While the 1.4-litre petrol engine with 100 hp and the 1.4-litre diesel motor with 90 hp will be mated to a 6-speed MT gearbox, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol unit will get a 7-speed DCT gearbox which will be, for the first time, equipped on an Indian compact SUV. The specific features, specifications and the price list of the Hyundai Venue will be officially announced at its launch in May 2019.
