Kia Compact MPV Launch in 2022, Will Rival Toyota Innova Crysta

Kia has plans to introduce an all-new MPV in our market in the near future. It will sit below Carnival MPV in the carmaker’s stable. 

Korean automaker Kia entered our market in 2019, and it seems like that the carmaker doing quite well. Right now, the automaker is offering three different cars in our market namely- Sonet, Seltos and Carnival. Kia Sonet was recently launched by the carmaker in India, and it has got quite popular among the buyers around the country. Recently, some patents have leaked online, which states that Kia planning to add an all-new MPV in its stable. Markets like India is now the company’s primary target, and once can expect the upcoming MPV to launch in our market by next year.

The all-new Kia MPV is internally codenamed as KY and will be based on the platform of the company’s highly successful compact SUV- Seltos. The upcoming MPV is expected to sit slightly below the Carnival. One can expect it to rivals with the likes of Toyota Innova Crysta. The automaker has an aim to retail around 50,000 units of this MPV locally in the domestic market, while Kia is also planning to export around 26,000 units annually. The production of the upcoming Kia MPV is expected to be developed at the company’s Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh. Kia’s Anantapur has an annual production capacity of 3 lakh units.

Mechanically, it’ll derive power from the same engine option, which powers the Kia Seltos. It will get propelled by 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine. The former puts out 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of peak torque, while the latter is capable of shredding out power and torque outputs of 115 PS and 250 Nm. It is also powered by a more potent 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol mill, which churns out 140 PS of 242 Nm of twisting force. It’ll comes loaded with features like  ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, LED headlights and tail-lights keyless entry, sunroof, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable ORVMs with in-built turn indicators and much more.
