According to Ola Kallenius, Chairman of Daimler, Mercedes-Benz EQS will offer a range of 700 per charge. The luxury sedan is scheduled to launch next year.
Undoubtedly, the electric vehicle segment (EV) is the hottest class of vehicles in the market at the moment. Even though EVs are not the best-selling cars at the moment, they is widely believed to be the key to the future of the automobile industry. Whoever can step up the game at this stage will clearly have an advantage in the future. Being aware of this, car manufacturers, including Mercedes Benz are pushing themselves in the war of EV technology development. It is known that Mercedes-Benz is working on developing the electric version of the Mercedes-Benz S Class sedan or the EQS. It was recently revealed that the Mercedes-Benz EQS can offer a range of around 700 km.
Mercedes Benz EQS is claimed to come with a range of 700 kms
Mercedes’s luxury EV sedan was showcased as a concept car at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The production-ready model of the car is expected to be revealed later this year. Ahead of the official launch, at a shareholder’s meeting, Ola Kallenius, Head of Daimler, revealed that the new EQS can offer the driving range of more than 700 kilometres, according to WLTP.
With the currently-revealed range specification, the upcoming EQS appears to be a strong contender against the likes of Tesla Model S. The Model S Long Range variant of the Model S offers the range of 645 km per each charge in WLTP standard.
Mercedes EQS will come with an in-house developed battery pack, which is all we know about the EQS’s battery system by far. Some reports suggest that the battery size of the EQS will be bigger than that of the Tesla S Long Range Plus (100 kWh). The battery will provide the power for two electric motors.
Mercedes Benz EQS will challenge the likes of Tesla Model S
According to Kallenius, Mercedes-Benz EQS is “the first fully-electric luxury sedan from Mercedes Benz based on an all-electric architecture.” He also suggested that the new architecture also opens various new possibilities of battery locations and car designs. The architecture in question is the MEA (Modular Electric Architecture) which will be employed in the future EVs made by Mercedes.
Mercedes-Benz EQS is a full-size luxury sedan whose luxury level will surely match with that of the S Class. Moreover, EQS is likely to be one of the most luxurious EVs in the world. It is expected that the Mercedes Benz will be launched on the second haft of 2021.
