More Than 4 Out of 10 New Mahindra Thar Sold Have Automatic Transmissions

New Mahindra Thar was one of the most anticipated launches this year. When the new SUV finally entered the market, the new model has exceeded the expectation and met with flying colour. It is claimed that Mahindra received over 20,000 bookings for the new Thar within the first month of launch. As per the reports, a good number of the customers is coming for the automatic variants.

Till date, it is reported that Mahindra Thar has gained over 25,000 bookings, and 44 per cent of the customers chose automatic variants. Mahindra is offering automatic gearbox option for both diesel and petrol engines. The exact shares of the diesel-automatic and petrol-automatic powertrain in the total booking number are not yet confirmed. However, it is expected that the demand for diesel automatic variants will be higher than the petrol automatic version. It is worth noticing that this is the first time that Mahindra Thar comes with an automatic gearbox.

For the new-generation Mahindra Thar, Mahindra aims to expand the customer band by improving interior comfort and convenience. The carmaker also attempts to add appeals to the new Thar by providing automatic gearbox for the first time. As per the sales result, it seems that Mahindra has attracted a number of customers who wants a lifestyle vehicle.

According to sources from dealerships, a majority of the buyers still opts for diesel-manual option. However, for the newly added automatic variants, 44 per cent is a good number to start with.  Mahindra is offering automatic gearbox option on the top-spec LX variants only.

It is good news that 2020 Mahindra Thar is doing well in sales. However, due to the unexpected huge demand, the waiting period has increased to 7 months. With the current production capability at Mahindra’s plant, the car manufacturer could not meet the increasing demand. It is reported that Mahindra would increase the production capacity by 3,000 or 3,500 units per month, which is expected to shorten the waiting period.
