Photos of the 2019 Maruti Celerio at a dealer scrapyard have surfaced online, suggesting a closer launch date than we anticipated

The Celerio has been a winner for Maruti-Suzuki from day one of its arrival onto showroom floors, and even gone through a host of changes to keep the model relevant and keep the cash register ringing in sales. This was also evident in the fact that Maruti-Suzuki introduced two new versions of the model just in 2017 - a mid-life facelift in the first half and then a crossover-inspire adventure version in the form of the Celerio X in the later half. However, with the new safety norms that manufacturers will have to comply with, Maruti-Suzuki will be launching a new 2019 version of the Celerio soon. While we wait to hear an official announcement  from the manufacturer, the model has been spotted at a dealer yard suggesting that the model launch is closer than we anticipated.

Reportedly, the new Celerio will carry with it a price tag of INR 4.39 lakh to INR 5.56 lakh (ex-showroom), making the updated model roughly INR 18,000 more expensive than the outgoing version.  With set rules in place, by law, the new Celerio will have to feature ABS, dual front airbags, a speed warning system, front seatbelt reminder (SBR) and reverse parking sensors. If you’re still worried about its safety aspect, worry not because in 2018 Maruti-Suzuki that the Celerio was one out of nine models which were put to test and successfully passes a full-frontal impact, offset frontal impact, and side-impact crash tests that will be mandatory for every new car sold in India from October 2019.

What will remain the same are the list of convenience features offered, transmissions and engine configuration. It will be powered by the same K10B 1.0-litre three-pot petrol motor, making 67bhp and 78Nm of torque. Transmission options are a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual.
