Beforehand, it is speculated that Tata will bring the Nexon’s power setting toward the Altroz, specifically the Nexon 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel and the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine. However, something has changed Tata’s mind, and now there seems to be only the petrol engine that would make it to the final stage.

Tata Altroz is likely to be launched with petrol option only

The reason for the exclusion of the diesel engine option is deemed to be the high cost of the BSVI-compliant engine. Tata Motors has always put a strong emphasis on keeping the price competitive and affordable, hence, introducing an expensive diesel option is not of the high priority. It has been confirmed by sources from inside the company.

The option that stays is the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine carried from the Nexon. In the Altroz, this engine will come with an optional mild-hybrid system.

This version deploys the 1.2-litre petrol engine that delivers the maximum power of 102 PS and the peak torque of 140 Nm. It comes with the standard transmission of 5-speed manual unit.

Tata Altroz will go on sale by June. It will replace the Bolt on the Tata’s line-up. When launched, it will compete with the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 as well as Honda Jazz.
