Toyota Vellfire Arrives At Dealerships And Is Ready For Launch

Delivery of Toyota Vellfire to dealers commences and its launch will follow later this month.

Lately, Toyota has been engaged in developing a range of upmarket products for the Indian market. Recently, the Japanese car manufacturer introduced a new edition of the Toyota Fortuner called TRD Celebratory Edition and its new Toyota Vellfire MPV is next in line. Previously, this MPV was spotted around the country and is now getting ready to launch soon. The official launch is expected to happen later this month.

Before hitting the Indian market, Toyota Vellfire was introduced on a global scale with two styling packages, Standard and Aero Body. Toyota has placed and is launching the Vellfire as a more affordable version of the Alphard. Positioned as the flagship MPV for Indian market, the 'budge' alternative of the Toyota Alphard will compete against the likes of Mercedes V-Class. The Toyota Vellfire measures 4,935mm, 1,850mm and 1,935mm in length, width and height, respectively.

In terms of powertrain, the Toyota Vellfire comes with two engine options - a 2AR-FE 2.5-litre petrol engine and a 2GR-FKS 3.5-litre petrol engine in the global market. While the former is capable of making a maximum power of 182 PS and a peak torque of 235 Nm, the latter is good for 301 PS and 361 Nm. About the transmission options, the smaller engine is paired to a CVT unit and the bigger unit is mated to an 8-speed automatic. Moreover, the 2.5-litre engine can come with a hybrid system which consists of two electric motors. The 2JM electric motor alone can make 143 PS and 270 Nm while the 2FM electric motor can deliver 68 PS and 139 Nm. It is not confirmed which engine option will be introduced in India.

The Toyota Vellfire, as a true luxury MPV, will be fully-loaded with a wide range of premium features. Some highlights for the exterior include LED headlights integrated with cornering lamps, low-set DRLs and wraparound LED taillights. Inside, the Vellfire features power sliding doors for easy ingress, dual moonroof, ambient lighting, first- and second-row ventilated seats, three-zone automatic climate control and 7 airbags for safety. True to its luxury car appeal, the rear passengers enjoy some exclusive features like a rear 10.2-inch screen for entertainment and individual seat tables. In terms of design, customers can pick either a beige or black themed interior.

Toyota will import the Vellfire via the CBU route (Completely Built Unit) in India. This way, Toyota can make use of the new import incentive introduced by Indian government for foreign automobile manufacturers. According to the new rules, car companies are allowed to imported 2,500 vehicles per year through CKD and CBU route without homologation. For more car updates, check out IndianAuto.com.
