Volkswagen Tarek is scheduled to launch in South America by the end of 2020. It has been spied for the first time ever near Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Volkswagen is readying for the Volkswagen Tarek which will rival the Jeep Compass. The new crossover has been spotted under disguise near Sao Paulo for the first time before hitting the South America market by the end of 2020. The launch in the North American market will follow in 2021. In Volkswagen’s line-up, the crossover Tarek will sit above the Tiguan.

Volkswagen Tarek is known as Tharu in the Chinese market

Volkswagen Tarek will share the same pronounced stance with the T-Cross but in a more mature and larger form. Under the camouflage, the Volkswagen Tarek’s front and rear-end design remain hidden. However, the uncovered side profile of the test mule has shown resemblances between the T-Cross and the Tarek. It appears that Volkswagen Tarek will be essentially similar to Volkswagen Tharu which is currently on sale for the Chinese market. That being said, Volkswagen will give the Tarek some clear distinctions from the Tharu. As revealed by Steffen Reiche, VW Mexico CEO, the North-America-spec Tarek will look more aggressive than the China-bound Tharu.

Volkswagen Tarek will slot between the T-Cross and Tiguan on VW’s global line-up

Volkswagen Tarek is likely to measure around 4,450 mm, 2,680 mm in length and width, respectively. It is expected to sport a boot space of 410 litres. In all likelihood, Volkswagen Tarek, when launched in South America, will boast a 1.4-litre TSI motor that generates a maximum power of 148 Bhp and peak torque of 250 Nm. A six-speed automatic gearbox is likely to take the transmission duties on the Tarek. Probably, a front-wheel-drive system will be standard on the Tarek while an all-wheel-drive setting will be available as an option.

In South America, all-new Volkswagen Tarek will sit between the T-Cross and the Tiguan. It will challenge the likes of Jeep Compass. A sever seater version of this crossover is likely to follow. Price of VW Tarek for the South America market is expected to range from $31,000 to $39,000. Volkswagen Tarek will be manufactured at Volkswagen’s facility in Mexico.
