Mahinda & Mahindra is setting off its weapons to regain the lost market share in the utility vehicles space, which is known as the company’s core strength in the automotive industry. In a bid to revive the company’s market share which just saw a dip to 15.27 percent as against 28 percent in early FY2018, Mahindra launched the new-gen Thar lifestyle SUV in the Indian market a couple of months back. Buoyed by the Thar’s resounding response, the Mumbai-based automobile manufacturer is set to introduce a range of cars including new generations for the existing models and new electric cars next year. 1. New-gen Mahindra XUV500

  • Expected Launch: March - April 2021

  • Expected Price: Rs 12 - 18 lakh (ex-showroom)

One of the most-awaited upcoming SUVs in India 2021-22 is the new-gen Mahindra XUV500 which is set to come to us in early 2021. In fact, the latest version of the XUV500 has waited in the wings for quite some time and spy shots of the new XUV500 have emerged on the Internet multiple times before.

As per sources, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will be developed on a new monocoque platform that also underpins the forthcoming Ford C-SUV offering. The XUV will be available in both 6- and 7-seat options, making it a direct competitor to the Hector Plus and upcoming Tata Gravitas.

Powering the new Mahindra upcoming SUV in India will be a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel unit. The expected price for the 2021 XUV500 is around Rs 12 - 18 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom).

2. New-gen Mahindra Scorpio

  • Expected Launch: April - June 2021

  • Expected Price: Rs 10 - 16 lakh (ex-showroom)

The new Mahindra Scorpio is the next important car launch of Mahindra in India next year. Initially launched as India’s first urban SUV in 2002, the Mahindra Scorpio is set to receive a generation change in the second quarter of 2021. The all-new SUV will witness a thorough makeover from outside to inside and under the skin. It will be riding on a longer wheelbase which will translate into more legroom for passengers at the second and third row of seats.

Powering the new Mahindra Scorpio will be two new engine options – a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit. Transmission duties are handled by both manual and automatic options. Among the upcoming Mahindra SUV cars in India, the expected price for the new-gen Scorpio is around Rs 10 - 16 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom).

3. Mahindra TUV300 and TUV300 Plus Facelift

  • Expected Launch: Q1 2021

Mahindra won’t be giving up on the TUV300 and TUV300 Plus yet. The home-grown carmaker is working on the facelifted versions of the TUV300 and TUV300 Plus which will likely hit the market in the coming months. While the exact launch date of the two upcoming Mahindra SUV cars is yet to be announced, we do expect the TUV300 and TUV300 Plus facelift to arrive in Q1 2021. The Mahindra new SUVs have been spotted on test multiple times.

Spy shots suggest that the Mahindra upcoming SUV in India 2021-22 will receive a host of styling revisions at the front while the overall profile will remain untouched. In other words, the updated TUV300 and TUV300 Plus will stick with the boxy-styling design that has been the brand’s USPs.

Under the hood of the TUV300 facelift will be a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that will be available with either a 5-speed MT or an AMT option. In the BS4 guise, this mill is capable of generating 100 BHP of max power and 240 Nm of torque.

4. Mahindra eKUV100

  • Expected Launch: Q1 2021

  • Price: Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom)

The next upcoming SUV in India 2021-22 is the Mahindra eKUV100. Expected to hit its showrooms sometime in January next year, the fully-electric Mahindra eKUV100 SUV had its public showcase at the Auto Expo 2020. At the price of around Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom), the new upcoming Mahindra SUV will be the most affordable electric car available on sale in India.

The upcoming mini SUV by Mahindra will make use of a 40kW electric motor paired with a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with the former being able to deliver 53 BHP and 120 Nm of torque. It claims to cover a range of up to 120 km in a single charge. The battery can be charged up to 80 percent in around 55 minutes through the fast charger. While Mahindra aims to introduce the eKUV100 to the fleet operators, the company will sell the EV to the private buyers too.

5. Mahindra XUV300 Electric

  • Expected Launch: H2 2021

  • Expected Price: Rs 15- 20 lakh (ex-showroom)

Mahindra will introduce the electric version of its popular compact SUV - the XUV300 - in the Indian market. Dubbed the Mahindra eXUV300, the upcoming Mahindra electric SUV was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It is basically based on the regular XUV300 but sports a host of revisions to make it a distinctive electric vehicle. The eXUV300 will be developed on the MESMA 350 architecture which was developed in-house in the company.

Among the most-awaited upcoming SUVs in India 2021-22, the Mahindra XUV300 electric will be equipped with two battery options including a standard 40 kWh and a long-range 60 kWh unit. The former can propel the car to a range of 370 km while the latter gets a claimed range of over 450 kilometres.

With these upcoming SUVs in India 2021-22 up to its sleeve, the market leader is all set to eat a bigger slice of the pice in the utility vehicles space. Currently, Mahindra is standing at third in the UV market share stakes, just behind Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. However, considering the increasing competitions caused by the newer models, especially with Kia being a redoubtable rival, Mahindra can be at a standstill. The South Korean company has earned 14% of the UV market share just within a short span of time and two SUVs in the lineup.
