Take a look at this all-new Mahindra Thar, which seems ready to join the fleet of Mumbai Police and replace the ageing Bolero and Scorpio vehicles.

Mahindra Thar in its second-generation avatar has already been launched at a starting price of Rs. 9.80 lakh. It now gets a new chassis and a major design update. However, it continues to stick to the roots, which are derived from Willy’s Jeep that Mahindra sold in the mid-90s. This time around Mahindra Thar is offered in a total of six colour options - Diamond White, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Red Rage, Napoli Black, Rocky Beige, and Aquamarine. However, Mahindra Thar has been a choice of vehicle for the police forces of different states in the country. On a similar note, digital artist – Shoeb R. Kalania made the new-gen Thar don the Mumbai Police livery, digitally.

Talking of the changes that have been performed on the Thar to make it a perfect fit in the Mumbai Police vehicle lineup, there are many. First things first, it gets a Mumbai Police livery that is seen on the other vehicles used by the police department of the metro city. Moreover, it misses out on the 18-inch grey-finished alloy wheels. It gets the 16-inch steel rims from the base-spec AX trim, instead. Also, there no fog lamps on the front bumper either. On the top, it now gets beacon lights, like other Mumbai Police vehicles.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with a slew of features. The long equipment list includes automatic climate control, 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control and more. On the safety front, it now gets dual-front airbags, 3-point seat belts for all seats, electronic stability program, roll-over mitigation, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a roll cage

There are two engine options on offer – 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel. The petrol unit is capable of belting out 150 HP of peak power and 320 Nm of max torque. However, the oil burner is designed to push out 130 HP and 300 Nm as its peak output. Mahindra is offering two gearbox options as well. There is a 6-speed manual gearbox and an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox on offer. The Thar comes standard with a 4X4 transfer case with low-range gearbox and mechanically-locking rear differential.
