8 Safest Cars In India As Per NCAP - Mahindra XUV300 to Tata Tiago

Indian cars are known for skimping out on safety features for value-for-money prices. But things are slowly changing for the better and today we have top 8 safest cars to be produced locally in India.

India is one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, and most of the global automakers sell their cars in the country. But, India is a very price-sensitive market, which has led to manufacturing compromising on safety features. Instead, they prefer selling products with better fuel economy and cheaper price tags. Today we have the list of the safest cars produced in India, as per the Global NCAP rating. Under their latest round of crash tests at 64 kmph, three Indian manufactured cars have scored the full five stars, while five of them have scored four-star ratings. Let's take a look at the models.

Mahindra XUV 300 

The Mahindra XUV 300 is India’s safest car as per the New Car Assessment Program rating, earning it the Global NCAP’s first-ever Safer Choice award. The compact SUV scored a full five stars for adult production (scoring 16.42 out of 17) and four stars for child occupant protection (scoring 37.44 out of 49). It comes with standard safety features like dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS.

Tata Altroz 

Tata’s premium hatchback offering, the Altroz comes in second in the safest cars in India. The Tata Altroz received the full five-star rating (scoring 16.13 out of 17) for adult protection, and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 29 out of 49). It comes with dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS as standard.

Tata Nexon

The Nexon is the second product from Tata that scored the full five stars (scoring 16.06 out of 17) for adult protection and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 25 out of 49). You get dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS across all trim levels as standard.

Mahindra Marazzo

Mahindra’s Marazzo was tested a while back in 2018, and it scored four stars (scoring 12.85 out of 17) for adult protection and two stars for child occupant protection (scoring 22.22 out of 49). It is the highest-rated four stars for a vehicle by Global NCAP, currently on sale in India. You get dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS across all variants.

Volkswagen Polo 

The Volkswagen Polo scored four stars for adult protection (scoring 12.54 out of 17) and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 29.91 out of 49) when it was tested way back in 2014. Though it ranks second for four-star ratings here, it beats the Marazzo in terms of child protection ratings. The Polo comes with only dual front airbags as standard.

Tata Tigor/Tiago 

Tata’s siblings, the Tigor and Tiago get four stars (scoring 12.52 out of 17) for adult protection and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 34.15 out of 49). Both of them were tested recently and get standard safety features like dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker drew quite a lot of flak over its poor crash-test results from some of its recent models. The Maruti Vitara Brezza was tested back in 2018, where it managed to score four stars  (scoring 12.51 out of 17)  for adult protection and two stars for child occupant protection (scoring 17.93 out of 49). All trim levels come with dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners, and four-channel ABS as standard.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The outgoing Maruti Ertiga scored three stars (scoring 9.25 out of 17) for adult occupancy and three stars for child occupant protection (scoring 25.16 out of 49), which is better than the Vitara Brezza’s two stars. Features like dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, SBR, front seatbelt pretensioners and now-mandatory rear parking sensors and speed alarms are standard across the range.
