2018 Hyundai Santro AMT to be Available in Two variants

Hyundai, the South Korean automaker plans on launching the Hyundai Santro on this October 23, 2018. This new sedan will come with five trim levels, in which, both of the Sportz trims and the mid-spec Magna are equipped with manual as well as AMT gearbox options. The similar variants will also be available with an optional factory-fit CNG kit even without an AMT box.

The Santro is considered the first model of Hyundai to be replete with an automated manual transmission. Both AMT and manual transmission units will be offered with the same 69hp and 1.1-litre petrol engine. 

To ensure all the variants to be in the model price bracket, the 5-speed AMT gearbox will not be available on the top-spec Asta trim. Therefore, the two Santro AMT models look to miss out the features which are available on the Asta variant, such as 

• Reverse camera

• Rear air-con vents 

• 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system 

• Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility

In terms of the safety kit, the car offers the basic features as in all Santro production line-up such as 

• Driver’s side airbag

• ABS with EBD

• Rear parking sensors 

• Steering-mounted controls

• Power-adjustable wing mirrors 

The Santro is considered the initial model of Hyundai to be provided with an automated manual transmission

The prices of the Santro's AMT variants are positioned to be around Rs 30,000 which is higher than the respective manual gearbox variant in the bid to price the new hatchback aggressively. With this price, the Hyundai Santro ATM will take on the likes of the Tata Tiago AMT with the price at Rs 5.04 to 5.63 lakh as well as Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT with the price at Rs 5.49 to 5.94 lakh.
