All-new Hyundai Elite I20 Premium Hatchback Spied Testing

Because of the increasing demand for premium hatchbacks in India, the next-gen i20 will be a highly potential car model in India auto market. Competed against by many rivals such as the forthcoming Tata motors’ 45X concept-based hatchback and Kia’s Rio, Hyundai has to prepare everything carefully to increase its competitiveness.

The new Hyundai i20 has been tested under thorough disguise by BWS Design, in South Korea, to prepare for its launch in the next two years.

Although the new Hyundai i20 was heavily camouflaged, we can still recognize some of its main features. To be more specific, it is expected to have considerable updates in the exterior, interior and engine.

The all-new i20 tested in India was spotted to be equipped with larger front and rear windows than the current model, which suggests that the cabin is more spacious. The new car is likely to be larger in size with larger windows but lighter in weight.

The new i20 has to live up to the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) safety norms which have been implemented since October. Accordingly, all i20 variants have to feature dual airbags and an ABS. It is also expected that Top-spec versions of the new i20 will be packed with 6 airbags.

Refined engine and performance

The new i-20 is likely to be powered by the same engine as the current model’s 1.2-litre petrol or 1.4-litre diesel engines by 2020. While the 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 82bhp and 115Nm of torque, the 1.4-litre turbo diesel can deliver up to 89bhp and 220Nm of torque. The petrol i20 is available with a CVT automatic or 5-speed manual transmission whereas the diesel one uses a 6-speed manual gearbox.
