Renault India has already confirmed that the Renault Kwid facelift will go on sale in 2019.

Renault is working on a mid-cycle update of the entry-level Renault Kwid for India. After four years of presence, the updated Kwid hatchback is all set to come back during the festive season of 2019. While the electrified version of Renault Kwid hatchback dubbed City K-ZE unveiled at the ongoing 2019 Shanghai Motor Show, a batch of spy shots surfaced online shows that the Renault Kwid facelift has been spotted in the international markets.

Renault is set to introduce a new mid-life facelift for the entry-level Kwid hatchback in India.

From our point of view, the facelifted Kwid will borrow a number of design cues from the City K-ZE sibling such as the heavily-redesigned front bumper housing the City K-ZE-sourced headlamps or the sleeker LED daytime running lights and indicators setup. The front grille, on the other hand, is expected to differentiate the conventional Kwid with the City K-ZE. Since the K-ZE is an electric vehicle, the grille will accommodate a charging port that will never make its presence on the regular Kwid model.

The Renault Kwid facelift is expected to take many design elements from the City K-ze sibling which has just debuted at 2019 Shanghai Motor Show.

The side profile of the Kwid facelift sports no changes. While the Kwid-based K-ZE is spotted to feature a larger set of 14-inch alloy wheels with 165/70-sized tires, the conventional Kwid facelift is expected not to come with these units. At the back, it seems likely that the updated version of Kwid will get a refreshed rear bumper and tweaked tail lamps which might stick with LED light guides as seen in the K-ZE model.

Moving to the interior, spy images revealed that not much has been done on the inside of the Kwid facelift, from the dark-grey colour scheme to the layout of the dashboard, excepting for a larger infotainment touchscreen with extra functions like voice recognition or cabin air purifier. Now that the current-Kwid is not available with passenger airbags which might cause a bit let down to safety-conscious car buyers in the modern days, we expect the facelift, this time around, will offer with dual airbags for the front passenger.

The Kwid facelift India launch is likely to happen during the festive season of 2019.

The 2019 Renault Kwid (facelift) will remain untouched in the engine-transmission setup. It will most likely deploy the same 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine options. The smaller version will be capable of producing 54 PS of max power and 72 Nm of torque while the later should go for 68 PS and 91 Nm torque. Both the mills will come along with a 5-speed manual transmission but the larger one will get an optional automated manual transmission.

As stated above, the updated Renault Kwid is in a likelihood to arrive during the second half of 2019. At the expected price between Rs 2.71- 4.66 Lakh, the new Kwid will compete against the similar models of Maruti Alto 800, Maruti Alto K10 and Datsun Redi-Go in India.
