The launch of the upcoming new-gen Hyundai Elite i20 is confirmed to happen on November 5. Honda has opened the order book for the 2020 Hyundai i20. Bookings are accepted with a token amount of Rs 21,000. Ahead of the launch, Hyundai has released key variant-wise details of the upcoming model.
Accordingly, 2020 Hyundai i20 will come in four trims, Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). It is confirmed that Hyundai i20 will get multiple powertrain options. There are three engines on offer, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel unit.
The 1.2-litre NA petrol engine is capable of making a top power of 83 PS and a maximum torque of 114 Nm and mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The turbocharged mill, on the other hand, is more powerful with 120 PS and 175 Nm on tap. This engine is available with two choices of transmission, a 6-speed iMT or a DCT automatic gearbox. The only diesel engine is good for 110 PS and 240 Nm, and exclusively mated to a manual gearbox.

Now let’s find how these powertrains are distributed across the Hyundai i20 range. The entry-level Hyundai i20 will come with two powertrains, a naturally aspirated petrol-manual and a diesel-manual option. Coming to the next trim, Sportz, all three engines are available. However, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will be offered with an iMT gearbox only. Hyundai i20 Asta is a petrol-only variant. It gets the full gearbox options for the two petrol mills. The top-spec Asta (O) gets all three engine options. However, on the Asta (O) trim, while the NA petrol engine is mated to a manual gearbox, the turbocharged unit is available with 7-speed dual-clutch transmission only.
As for the exterior, the Hyundai i20 is offered with eight colour options, 6 single-colour and 2 dual-tone options. The monotone options include Metallic Copper, Starry Night, Fiery Red, Titan Grey, Metallic Copper, Polar White, and Typhoon Silver. For dual-tone options, Hyundai combines Fiery Red and Polar White with black roof. The dual-tone options are available on the Sportz, Asta (petrol) and Asta (O).
Hyundai i20 is expected to be priced from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The premium hatchback will continue to challenge the likes of Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo Toyota Glanza and Maruti Baleno. More details of the Hyundai Elite i20 will be revealed in the upcoming week.
