Ahead of the official launch, the upcoming model has already been spotted on various occasions. Recently, the hardtop version of the 2020 Mahindra Thar was spied undergoing road tests. One of the most significant changes that can be easily identified is that the Mahindra Thar will grow in size. Spy pictures also suggest that the new Thar will come in both hard top and soft top version. Exteriorly, the new model will have an evolved design. In other words, this off-roader would retain its signature look of a robust and rugged off-roader while acquiring an all-new bodyshell that's more modern than the current version.

On the inside, Mahindra Thar will come with a more upmarket dashboard. Especially, the top-spec variant will sport a large touchscreen display. It also will also get a new steering wheel along with front-facing second-row seats instead of the side-facing setting on the existing model. Owing to the larger dimensions, the new Thar would come with a larger interior space. One of the reasons for upgrading the Mahindra Thar is to provide better crash safety. In line with the upcoming safety standards, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will feature ABS with EBD, front seatbelt reminder, dual front airbags, rear parking sensor and high-speed alert.

The next-gen Thar will also have an updated engine option to meet with the new emission norms. An all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes the maximum power of 140 bhp will take the powering duty on the new Thar. This engine, with no doubt, will comply the new BSVI regulation.
