All New Mahindra Thar To Step Up The Heat This Summer

Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of next-generation Thar in the Indian market. The domestic automaker decided not to showcase the new Thar at the Auto Expo 2020, instead choosing to introduce the SUV in another event in the coming months. The 2020 Mahindra Thar’s market launch has been confirmed for mid-2020.

While the previous-gen Mahindra Thar came off as a hardcore off-roader, the new-gen Thar will be more of a comfort-focused SUV, but still retaining its boxy, retro-inspired shape. Spy shots of the 2020 Mahindra Thar have emerged on the Internet multiple times, previewing the upcoming SUV with a hardtop as well as a soft-top.

The all-new Thar’s interior will also stray far from that of its predecessor thanks to the inclusion of a completely-new dashboard along with new comfort goodies to the package.

The added suite of features might include a new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a MID, manual AC and USB charging ports.

If speculations are to be believed, the next-gen Thar will be available in both 6- and 7-seat configurations. There will be front-facing seats for the middle row along with a suite of safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, speed alert, seatbelt reminder and central locking as standard across the variants of the Mahindra Thar 2020 new model.

Powering the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be a BSVI-compliant version of the tried-and-tested 2.2-litre diesel engine that is tuned to produce around 140 HP of power and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. An automatic option is also on the cards.\

The next-gen Thar is also expected to be equipped with a new 'mStallion' 2.0-litre petrol engine option, of course, in BS6 guise. This motor will generate 190 HP of max power and 380 Nm of torque and be kitted with turbocharging and direct-injection technology.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar is one of the most-awaited SUVs in the country this year. Price of the new Mahindra Thar is yet to be revealed but we expect it to be priced at around Rs 10 Lakh mark. Once launched, it will take a direct fight against other off-roading SUVs in India, including the Force Gurkha or the forthcoming Maruti Gypsy (Suzuki Jimny).
