2020 Mahindra Thar Spotted Again

2020 Mahindra Thar will make its highly-awaited debut on August 15. The new-gen Thar will see a comprehensive upgrade from the existing version. New Mahindra Thar was scheduled to launch earlier this year. However, Mahindra had to delay the launch of this SUV until this month due to the pandemic.

Prior to the official launch date, the new Mahindra Thar has been seen during its road tests multiple times. As the latest images suggest, Mahindra & Mahindra is yet to get done with the testing of the vehicle, even though the launch is finally not too far from us. 

Compared to its predecessor, the new Thar is significantly larger. It is confirmed that the 2020 model will see a growth in terms of size. Some sources also suggest that the new Thar will get a higher ground clearance which will enhance the SUV’s off-road capability to some extent. In addition to these dimensional changes, the Mahindra Thar will also get a few feature updates including LED headlights, LED DRLs and 5-spoke alloy wheels.

We will see a significant improvement in terms of features inside the cabin of the new Thar. Mahindra Thar has never been thought of as a well-equipped vehicle. With a strong emphasis on the functionality, reliability and off-road capability, the aspects of comfort and convenience were never in the priority list of the designers of the original vehicle.  However, with the upcoming generation upgrade, all earlier impressions about the rugged SUV’s interior will change. The 2020 Mahindra Thar will come with the standard features that are expected on every regular passenger vehicles like automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheels, bucket seats and more. With these enhancements, Mahindra expects to expand the target audience beyond the off-road enthusiast community. After receiving these updates, Mahindra Thar will be qualified to compete as a family car offering.

Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar is likely to come with both petrol and diesel engine options. On the petrol-powered range, the power will be sourced from a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo unit. The other option will be a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. It is highly possible that Mahindra will offer both manual and automatic gearbox for the new Thar. The power outputs of these engines are yet to be revealed. A 4x4 system will be available on the top-spec variants. 2020 Mahindra Thar will be built on a new ladder-frame chassis. The new platform provides enhanced torsional rigidity and improved approach and departure angles, which will benefit the off-roading capabilities of the SUV to a great extent. Moreover, this new platform is designed with an intention to meet the updated crash test norms. It is expected the new Mahindra Thar with BSVI updates will be priced higher than the existing model. At the moment, the only direct rival of Mahindra Thar is the Force Gurkha.
