Ford is set to launch the all-new 7-seater SUV, Ford Equator, in the Chinese market in the first haft of 2021. The upcoming SUV is developed under the collaboration between Ford Motor Company and Jiangling Motor Corporation. This model will not make its way to the Indian market. However, in all likely hood, Ford is working on a new C-SUV which will borrow some design elements from the China-spec Equator.
Recently, a set of images showed up on internet, revealing the exterior and interior of the China-spec Ford Equator. According to the latest images, Ford Equator gets a dominating front-end with a chrome-garnished grille, octagonal air intakes, sleek LED headlamps with DRLs, pronounced bumper, and wide air dams.
Similar to the imposing front avatar, the side profile also gets a muscular look with bold creases and flared arches. To enhance the rugged and SUV-ish look, it is added with black plastic cladding on the side. On the other hand, the chrome window line compliments the premium aspect of the design. On the rear end, Ford Equator gets a silver-finished diffuser, twin exhaust pipes and chrome “EQUATOR” lettering on the boot lid. It is noted that the taillights located on two ends are connected by a thin light bar.
On the inside, the interior design looks expensive with dual-tone combination with grey cabin and tanned dashboard along with some brown leather upholstery highlights on the seats and wheel cover. At the centre of the dashboard is a free-standing horizontal display that looks absolutely swanky. As per the revealed specs, the Ford Equator measures 4905 mm, 1930 mm and 1755 mm in length, width and height, respectively. The wheelbase of this SUV is 2,856 mm long. It will come with two seating configurations, 6-seater and 7-seater. For the six-seater seating, the second row will comprise of two captain seats instead of a bench-type second row as in the seven-seater version.
About the powertrain, the 2021 Ford Equator will be powered by a 2.0-litre Ecoboost twin-turbo petrol engine paired to an automatic gearbox. This powertrain is capable of making 224 Bhp. The upcoming SUV will be available with both rear-wheel-drive system and four-wheel-drive system. For the Indian market, Ford is developing a new C-SUV, which will share some styling elements with the China-spec Ford Equator. However, the mechanical parts of the India-spec C-SUV will be taken from the new-gen Mahindra XUV500. While the new-gen XUV500 is ready to hit the showrooms by April this year, the Ford C-SUV will arrive by late 2021 or early 2022.
