Toyota Corolla Cross has finally been unveiled; it gets a butch-looking front fascia. However, It is highly unlikely to be considered for the Indian market.

Toyota is known for selling some of the most-reliable SUVs across the globe. The brand sells big-brawny ladder-frame SUVs in various international markets. However, the compact and sub-compact SUV segments have been long un-attended by Toyota in developing countries. But, this would not be the case anymore as Toyota has finally unveiled the Corolla Cross. In the international markets, it will rival the likes of Hyundai Tucson and more. It is underpinned by the same platform as the Corolla but gets a slew of changes to differentiate itself from the executive sedan.

To start with, it gets an angry face. There’s a big radiator grille that is flanked by sleek upswept headlamp units. The headlamp units are long and feature long LED DRLs as well. On the lower end of the front facet is a black cladding that also runs around the radiator grille. The front bumper is beefy and gets a lot of fillets and creases to boast of a muscular look. There’s a smart-looking body-coloured skid plate at the chin that breaks the visual bulk of the black cladding.

The Toyota emblem on the front is filled with blue colour, which hints that Corolla Cross will come with an option of hybrid powertrain as well. The high-set bonnet features a lot of haunches and creases, therefore giving the car a masculine appeal.  Moving over to the sides, Corolla Cross gets rectangular wheel wells, which seems to be inspired by the bigger RAV4 just like the wheel arches.

Toyota is also working to launch a sub-4m compact-SUV in our country, which will be based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza.

Toyota Corolla Cross gets a floating appeal for the roof with the help of a chrome band that runs from A-pillar to the D-Pillar. The car is fairly long and gets a decent sized greenhouse area. Also, there is a set of chunky roof rails mounted on top of it, and to upkeep the style quotient, it gets door-mounted ORVMS and dual-tone finish for the alloy wheels. Talking of the powertrain options, it is likely to get a 2.0L Dynamic Force petrol engine, which is good to generate a rated output of 171 PS/ 205 Nm. A hybrid powertrain from Corolla is likely to be seen here as well.
