New Honda City will hit the Thailand car market in late 2019, It will launch in India in 2020

The Honda City was once the leader in the B-segment, and No.3 last year behind the Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna. The current model was first introduced in 2013 and started losing the edge to its long-standing rivals, Ciaz and Verna. A recent report from Headlightmag, a renowned Thailand auto magazine, revealed that the fourth quarter of 2019 might be time for a whole new look of the Honda City, whose first launch is said to be in Thailand and considered the most crucial hit in the Thai market this year.

The Honda City is getting an upgrade

Official specifics on the design of the next-gen Honda City are rare at the moment. Rumour has it that the new model may inherit some design and performance elements from the new-gen Accord and Insight. It is believed that the company may emulate the visual appeal of the Honda Insight.

The new City should get some upgrades from the current offering. According to Headlight Mag, the model that will launch in Thailand later this year will feature a powerful 3-cylinder 1.0-litre turbocharged VTEC petrol engine. The new engine with a 12-valve DOHC head will come with both VTEC and Dual VTC variable valve systems and a bore x stroke of 73.0 x 78.7 mm. It should produce a maximum torque of 200 Nm. The new Honda City is available with two transmission options, 6-speed manual or CVT automatic. The low-displacement petrol motor may be updated to fill E85.

Apart from conventional engine options, a hybrid version with the new generation of i-MMD dual-motor powertrain consisting of a 4-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine and two extra electric motors is also anticipated. However, it is unlikely that the full-hybrid set up will hit India due to cost and ambiguous government policies for hybrid vehicles. The Indian market is expected to get a mid-hybrid petrol engine instead.
