The India-bound VW T-Cross is anticipated to hit the Indian roads in 2020. No hybrid powertrain has been confirmed.

The smallest VW SUV, the T-Cross made its first premiere in the International market in October 2018. It is expected to reach our shores sometime in 2020. Slated to share the underpinnings from the MQB A0 platform with the Virtus (new-gen Vento) and Polo, the 2019 VW T-Cross looks promising to make a big difference in the Indian auto market.

Volkswagen will bring its smallest SUV to the Indian market in 2020

The German carmaker, Volkswagen revealed its plan to launch the new Volkswagen T-Cross in India with no hybrid form owing to high expenses. In the global market, the T-Cross is now available with both petrol and diesel engine options. As per the automotive company, the hybrid or PHEV version of the T-Cross will not be on cards because the electrification costs should be too expensive, thereby make no sense from the Indian customers’ financial standpoint.

In the context that almost all T-Cross’s rivals adopt to use the internal combustion hearts, the India-spec Volkswagen T-Cross is slated to source the power output from a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. There is no confirmation about the diesel burner details on the upcoming T-Cross but it is rumoured that the 1.5-litre TDI engine might be discontinued when the new emission standards are taken into effect on April 1, 2020. The pricing range of the all-new VW SUV will stand at around Rs 10 Lakh- Rs 16 Lakh in the country. Although the hybrid powertrain will not come in the T-cross’s heart, Gurpratap Boparai, head of VW Group India has revealed to bring in a new hybrid car based on MQB A0 platform in the coming years.
