BS6 Hyundai Santro Launched, Costlier than Maruti WagonR

Hyundai Motor India Ltd has launched the BS6 Santro at a starting price of Rs 4.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It rivals the likes of Maruti WagonR and Tata Tiago.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd has finally launched the BS6-compliant Santro in the Indian market. The updated Hyundai Santro is priced between Rs 4.75 lakh*, for the entry-level Era Executive variant, to Rs 6.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec CNG trim. The hatchback competes with the likes of Maruti WagonR, which is also offered with both petrol and CNG variants. The new BS6 Maruti WagonR is priced between Rs 4.45 (ex-showroom, Delhi) to Rs 5.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The base trim of Maruti WagonR is Rs 12,000 cheaper compared to the base model of Santro, while the top-of-the-line variant of WagonR is Rs 26,000 cheaper than that of its Korean rival.

Talking about the Hyundai Santro, the hatchback derives power from a BSVI-compliant version of the same 1.1-litre, four-pot, petrol mill that powered the earlier version. It puts out 68bhp of peak power at 5,5000 rpm and 99 Nm of twisting force at 4,5000 rpm. The engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual as standard and a 5-speed AMT as optional. The car is being offered in four different variants, namely- Era Executive, Magna, Sportz and Asta. The Korean automaker relaunched the iconic Santro hatchback in our market back in 2018. While the new model could create some excitement among the small car buyers in the initial few months, it has been pretty comprehensively outsold by the Maruti WagonR.

Except for the addition of an updated BS6 power plant, the 2020 Hyundai Santro remains the same. It features a wide cascading grille with premium chrome inserts up front, sweptback headlamps, dual-tone interior, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear AC vents, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Moreover, Hyundai offers the Santro hatchback in seven smart-looking colour shades.
