Prices for the BS6 Mahindra Scorpio are out and reveal that Mahindra has priced the car aggressively even though the starting price has increased by a couple of lakhs
Mahindra has recently updated the Scorpio to comply with the stringent emission norms. Prices of the BS6 Mahindra Scorpio start at Rs. 11.98 lakh and go all the way up to Rs.15.58 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the BS-4 Scorpio had a starting price of Rs. 10.15 lakh, which translates to a price hike of almost Rs. 2.00 lakh when you compare it with the starting price of the updated model range. However, a reason for this huge gap is that with the price hike and the BS6 updates, the car misses out on the base-spec S3 variant that was available earlier. It also loses 2 engine options and the optional 4WD system.
Mahindra has revealed the prices of the BS-6 Scorpio and the price hike is technically capped at Rs. 40,000.
The Scorpio will now retail in just 4 variants, namely S5, S7, S9, and S11. It will come with the 2.2L mHawk diesel engine in the higher state of tune. The turbocharged oil burner will produce a peak power output of 140 HP and a max. torque of 320 Nm. The transmission duties on this mill will be performed by a 6-speed MT. Earlier, the Scorpio was offered with 2 other engine options as well.
There was a 2.5L m2DICR engine that belted out 75 HP/200 Nm at its max. output. It came mated to a 5-speed manual and was only offered in the now discontinued S3 trim. The other engine option was a 2.2L mHawk unit the developed 120 HP/280 Nm. This motor came mated to a 5-speed MT and was offered in the S5 and S7 variants, which now comes with the powerful iteration of this engine.

Talking of the prices, the starting price has increased, but a closer picture reveals a different information altogether. The S5 variant with the 120 PS engine in BS-4 tune was available at Rs. 12.37 lakh. However, with BS-6 update, the S5 variant gets the powerful 140 PS engine and the price has been reduced by Rs. 39,000. The S7 trim with 140 PS mill was priced at Rs. 13.43 lakh. Now, it has got dearer by Rs. 40,000 with a price tag of Rs. 13.83 lakh. The price hike for the S9 and S11 variant is also capped at Rs. 40,000 only.
