Citroen wants to enter the Indian auto market on the front foot with its C5 Aircross SUV. It has just been revealed and will launched this month, and will come with a unique "Flying Carpet Effect".
Citroen India intends to make a sizeable impact in the Indian auto market with the C5 Aircross premium SUV as its first product, with more affordable and volume-based models launching quickly after. The French automaker’s dealerships are based on the unique La Maison concept and will be expanded to reach a wider audience base in due course. The C5 Aircross will be mostly locally made with 90% of the materials sourced from India itself and upon launch will be priced aggressively against rivals like the new Jeep Compass. The C5 Aircross will bring in novel features to the segment upon launch, and comes with an assortment of tech that focuses on comfort, convenience, and safety.
Citroen was initially planning to debut in India last year but the global Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing slowdown of the market led to the delay to the Indian entry. The first batch of the C5 Aircross has already rolled out of the assembly lines at the Thiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu and looks largely similar to the global model. The C5 comes with a unique feature called the “Flying Carpet Effect”, which is possible via Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension system that absorbs uneven bumps on the roads for high-level comfort. It will be interesting to see how it handles Indian roads.
The interior is airy and light colours accentuate the feel and it's stuffed with up-to-date features and premium materials. The Citroen C5 Aircross comes with features like an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Phone Mirroring compatibility, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, leather seats, dual-tone dashboard finish, vertically placed air conditioning vents, panoramic sunroof and acoustic windscreen as well as front window glasses. The customers will get even more features like an engine start/stop button, Hill Hold Assist, reclining modular rear seats, Grip Control System, Blind Spot Monitoring, Park Assist, foot-operated electric tailgate, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, dual-tone 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and multi-functional steering wheel with mounted controls amongst others. Powering the Citroen C5 Aircross will be a 2-litre four-pot diesel engine which makes peak power and torque figures of 177 PS/400 Nm respectively and will be mated to an 8-speed auto gearbox as standard.
