Citroen wants to enter the Indian auto market on the front foot with its C5 Aircross SUV. It has just been revealed and will launched this month, and will come with a unique "Flying Carpet Effect".

Citroen India intends to make a sizeable impact in the Indian auto market with the C5 Aircross premium SUV as its first product, with more affordable and volume-based models launching quickly after. The French automaker’s dealerships are based on the unique La Maison concept and will be expanded to reach a wider audience base in due course. The C5 Aircross will be mostly locally made with 90% of the materials sourced from India itself and upon launch will be priced aggressively against rivals like the new Jeep Compass. The C5 Aircross will bring in novel features to the segment upon launch, and comes with an assortment of tech that focuses on comfort, convenience, and safety.

Citroen was initially planning to debut in India last year but the global Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing slowdown of the market led to the delay to the Indian entry. The first batch of the C5 Aircross has already rolled out of the assembly lines at the Thiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu and looks largely similar to the global model. The C5 comes with a unique feature called the “Flying Carpet Effect”, which is possible via Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension system that absorbs uneven bumps on the roads for high-level comfort. It will be interesting to see how it handles Indian roads.
