First MG Motor SUV to Enter India by June 2019

The legendary China-owned British automotive company, MG Motor which is a subsidiary of SAIC- the largest manufacturer in China has recently confirmed to launch its first vehicle to set foot in the Indian land. It is going to be an SUV based on the China-spec model revealed in March 2018, Baojun 530.

The first MG SUV will be based on the China-spec Baojun 530

The Baojun 530 is the result of the partnership between GM (General Motors), SAIC and Wuling (China). This model is a 5-seat SUV with 4655mm long,1835 mm wide and 1760mm high. In the global market, the Baojun 530 will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo and a 1.8-litre aspirated engine as an option.

While all details about the upcoming SUV are kept secret, it is certain that the vehicle will come with 75% localization. In other words, the first MG SUV will be designed in China and UK then heavily localized at the Halol plant in Gujarat, India to suit the driving conditions of the Indian roads.

The first SUV will be launched in the country by June 2019 and followed by a pure-electric SUV which will reveal one year later. Both two vehicles will be paired with technologies such as built-in Wifi, cloud-based services, Al-enabled services and over-the-air updates. 

MG Motor has noted that the capacity of the Halol Plant is 80,000 units per annum and is expected to extend to 20,000 unit in the coming time. The first SUV will position at around Rs 20 lakh. By this scheme, MG has proved to be ready for becoming a serious participant in the auto race and making its way to the top rank in the Indian carmakers' list.
