Hyundai Elite i20 BS6 version has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 6.49 lakh. Read ahead for more details.

Hyundai Motors had launched the BS6-compliant Venue just two days ago. Now, the Elite i20 follows suit with the launch of its BS6 variant.

The Hyundai i20 BS6 now starts at a price of Rs. 6.49 lakh, going all the way up to Rs. 8.31 lakh. A few the trims levels have also been omitted in the new model. The i20 is no longer available in the ‘Era’, Sports+ CVT’, and ‘Asta(O) CVT’. What this also means is that the new model is no longer available with an automatic gearbox. This follows hot in the heels of the feature-omissions in the BS6 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. Unlike the Nios though, the primary reason for the deletion of trims and features here is because the current model will soon be replaced a new-generation later this year.

It, therefore, is understandable that the South Korean car giant is trying to clear the current generation model from its factory floors in India, keeping the production to a minimum. The equipment list is not yet revealed to the public, so it is quite possible that the i20 has gone through some cost-cutting measures to achieve that goal. The price list for the Hyundai Elite i20 BS6 is given below:

As can be seen above, each existing trim-level is now Rs. 15,001 dearer than the equivalent trim in the older, BS4 model. The entry-level price tag for the car is also significantly more expensive now, by Rs. 90,000. Another thing to notice here is that there is no BS6-compliant diesel engine on offer. If you wish to buy one, you will have to check at the dealership level for remaining BS4 stock. The only engine on offer here is a 1.2-litre petrol motor with 83 PS and 114 Nm on tap, which comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only.
