Once launched, the new India-spec Kicks SUV will surpass the Terrano of Nissan and directly compete with the Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta and the forthcoming Kia SP-based SUV.

The first official images of the India-spec Kicks has been released by Nissan. The Kicks will be the first all-new vehicle manufactured by Nissan in years and is projected to be launched in January 2019 as a means for the company to more deeply penetrate into the teeming SUV segment in India.

Refreshed exterior

Based on the bigger B0 platform, which also supports the Renault Duster/Captur, the Kicks will be bigger in measure in comparison with other versions sold in such markets as Brazil, the US, the UAE and China, which are underpinned by the Micra’s V platform. Moreover, the vehicle is also expected to be wider, taller and have a longer wheelbase to make the cabin and boot space much larger.

Despite its larger size, some main design features of the global model are still retained on the vehicle including the kink on the C-pillar.

Similar interior

The India –spec SUV is expected to have the similar interior layout with the global version such as the same dashboard with a minimalist design. The panel is still wrapped with leather which gives us a soft touch across the cabin. Moreover, the Kicks is also likely to be packed with other advanced features including

  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

  • 360-degree camera functionality with four strategically located cameras all around

  • Electrically adjustable driver’s seat

  • Automatic climate control

  • Cruise control system

  • Rear AC vents

Refined engine

The India-spec Kicks SUV is likely to have similar powertrain options with the Captur. The 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines are expected to supply power to the vehicle. While the former can deliver 106PS/142Nm, the latter can produce up to 110PS/240Nm. The diesel-powered engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. However, since the Nissan Kicks is considered to be an exceptional car, it is expected to be equipped with a petrol-powered engine with an X-Tronic CVT.
