A compact SUV is expected to be manufactured under the Mahindra-Ford joint venture to compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos
Compact SUVs are becoming more and more popular in the Indian auto market; as a result, automakers do not hesitate to add one to their portfolio even if they have already had one. Being one of the leading SUV manufacturers in India, Mahindrais not an exception. The Mahindra - Ford joint venture and Ford Motor Company will launch compact SUVs underpinned by Ford’s VX-772 Platform, which will serve as the basis for vehicles which measure up to 4.4-metre in length. Ford seems to provide the platform for these SUVs while Mahindra will provide the powertrain options for them.
Mahindra’s managing director, Pawan Goenka, had confirmed that the three turbo gasoline burners showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo: the 1.2-litre, 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre can be used now. The 1.2-litre petrol unit will serve as the power source for the Ford EcoSport; the 1.5-litre one will power the upcoming compact SUV and the new-gen XUV500; the 2.0-litre motor will be provided for a new C SUV, which is being developed on a Mahindra’s chassis. The C SUV is likely to be exported to foreign markets by Ford. These two upcoming SUVs are codenamed W601 and W605. While the former will be manufactured by the American automaker for both, the latter will be produced by the home-grown automaker.
Although the introduction of these SUVs has been confirmed, no timeline is available. The new-gen Mahindra XUV500 is expected to be launched next year while Ford’s upcoming SUV will be introduced in 2022. These are all the details which have been discovered about upcoming SUVs which are being developed under Ford - Mahindra joint venture.
