Mahindra Thar Signature Edition Details Leaked Ahead Of Launch

According to the leaked information, Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be limited to only 700 units.

As the current version of the Mahindra Thar is unable to meet the upcoming stringent crash test standards, Mahindra has to halt the production of this popular off-roading SUV in October. Mahindra decided to launch a special limited edition of the Thar named Mahindra Thar Signature Edition as the temporary alternative for the standard Thar. The next-gen Mahindra Thar which is qualified for both the new safety and emission norms will follow in 2020. Currently, information of the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition along with pictures has surfaced the internet ahead of its launch.

Mahindra Thar Special Edition will come with some new exterior and interior features

According to the leaked images, Mahindra will limit the production of the Signature Edition to only 700 units. As revealed earlier, the special Thar will be available in two exterior colours, Napoli Black and Aqua Marine. Besides, the new Thar will feature some special touches like the black decals on the hood and silver accent on the front bumper. Especially, the limited-run Thar will wear a special Signature Edition badge with the signature of Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group on the fender. Apart from these new features, the limited Thar Signature Edition will carry the 5-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels from the old-gen Mahindra Scorpio.

On the inside, Mahindra Thar Signature Edition is expected to get leatherette seat cover and front-facing rear seats. Reportedly, the special edition will end up with more interior space than the current model. Safety features like ABS and airbags might be available as well.

Mahindra Thar Special Edition will be powered by the same 2.5-litre diesel engine from the Thar CRDe variant

Previously, Mahindra Thar was available with three variants, the DI 4x2, DI 4x4 and CRDe. After Mahindra ended the DI grade, now only the CRDe variant powered by the more-powerful 2.5-litre diesel engine is available. It also means that the limited Signature Edition will come only in CRDe grade. The same 2.5-litre diesel engine is able to produce the maximum power of 107 PS and peak torque of 247 Nm. Just like in the regular model, this engine will be paired with the same 5-speed manual gearbox.

The second-gen Mahindra Thar is expected to make the first appearance at the Auto Expo 2020. At first, the new Thar is expected to be available with only diesel engine. Later on, a petrol engine is likely to be added to the range. By now, Mahindra Thar has been seen for several occasions. Mahindra Thar 2020 will compete with the Force Gurkha.
