Maruti Baleno OUTSELLS Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz in November 2020

Last month, Maruti Baleno was the top-selling car in its segment. It competes with the likes of 2020 Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz.

From the past few months, Maruti Baleno is the top-selling premium hatchbacks offered in the Indian market. In its segment, it directly competes against the likes of new-gen Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz. In November 2020, Maruti Baleno again became the top-selling hatchbacks in India. The automaker managed to retail 17,872 units of the car. Maruti Suzuki retiled 18,047 units of the car in the same month last year. Maruti Baleno was the also the top-selling premium hatchback in its segment in November 2019. Recently, Hyundai has introduced the new-gen i20.

The Korean carmaker sold 9,096 units of hatchback last month. One can see that there is a huge difference between the sales figures of Maruti Baleno and 2020 Hyundai i20. Tata introduced its first-ever premium hatchback Altroz in the Indian market early this year. In November 2020, Tata sold 6,260 units of Altroz.

It’s quite surprising to see how well the Maruti hatchback is performing against its competitors. Besides the fact, the Maruti Baleno is offered with single-engine options. Other the hand, Hyundai i20 comes with three different powertrains and Tata Altorz is retailed with a petrol and diesel motor. Maruti Baleno derives power from a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, petrol motor, which puts out 82bhp of power and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. It is rated to offer an ARAI certified mileage of 21.01 kmpl.

The new-gen Hyundai i20 gets propelled by three distinctive powertrain options- 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. The 1.2-litre NA petrol unit puts out 82bhp of power, the turbo petrol unit develops 99bhp, and the diesel motor is capable of shredding out a power output of 99bhp. On the other hand, Tata Altorz is powered by 1.2-litre gasoline and 1.5-litre diesel mill. The former develops 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, while the former churns out 95 PS at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1,250-3,000 rpm.
