Maruti S-Presso CNG is displayed at Auto Expo. It is expected to go on sale soon. Read ahead for more information.
At Auto Expo 2020, Maruti has gathered various models for public display. On the previous reports, IndianAuto has introduced some of the newest models Maruti brings to the biggest motor show in India like Maruti Futuro-E, Maruti Swift Hybrid, Maruti Ciaz S and 2020 Maruti Brezza. Alongside this model, the new Maruti S-Presso with CNG power will also make its debut in this event.
Launched on 30 September last year, Maruti S-Presso is the newest hatchback to enter the Maruti’s small car family. At launch, the Maruti S-Presso comes with only one engine – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and no option of diesel offered. This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.
Maruti S-Presso is the first model to receive the BSVI-ready, CNG version of the 1.0-litre petrol engine. Not long ago, Maruti Alto was given a new CNG BSVI-compliant variant for its 0.8-litre petrol engine. The new powertrain is claimed to return the mileage of 31.59 km/kg. The new BSVI-compliant 1.0-litre CNG-petrol powertrain is expected to make its way to the Celerio X, Alto K10, and the Wagon R. Currently, these models are only available with the old BSIV-compliant version.
The ongoing engine, when running on petrol, will be capable of making a maximum power of 68 PS and a peak torque of 90 Nm. On the other hand, the use of CNG will lower the output to 59 PS and 78 Nm. Maruti S-Presso CNG-petrol will come with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox.
Maruti S-Presso CNG will be available on all the four trims, LXi, LXi option, VXi, and VXi option. Compared to its conventional petrol counterparts, these variants will be priced higher by around Rs 60,000. Currently, in the same space, there are other vehicles that also provide CNG options. Hyundai Santro, Maruti Celerio, and Maruti Alto K10 are a few prominent examples. These model will compete directly with the Maruti S-Presso.
