Here, we have a detailed breakdown of RTO charges in different states of India. Before we begin with the road taxes, first let's take a look at the documents required to get your car registered.

Documents for Car Registration

To register your car, you’ll need to submit a few documents. These documents are listed below:

  1. Address Proof: You’ll have to submit a copy (or two) of a valid address proof in order to register your car. A valid address proof includes any one of the following-
    1. Electricity Bill
    2. Water Bill
    3. Voter ID Card
    4. Aadhar UID Card
    5. Bank Account Statement from a Nationalized Bank. The bank account should be at least six months old.
    6. Passport
    7. Landline Telephone Bill (BSNL or MTNL only)
    8. LIC Policy Copy
  2. ID Proof:
    1. Passport

    4. Driving License

Road Tax Fees in New Delhi

If you’re registering a vehicle in New Delhi, you’d have to pay varying charges depending upon whether you’re registering a private car for yourself or one for your company’s official use. Apart from that, there are different tax brackets for cars of different values.

Road Tax Fees in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Road Tax structure is quite simple. If your vehicle costs less than or equal to Rs. 10 Lakh (ex-Showroom), you’ll have to pay 12% of the car’s value as tax. If it costs more than that, the tax becomes 14% of the car’s ex-showroom price.

The state of Tamil Nadu has a fairly simple system for calculating road taxes. If your costs less than 10 Lakh Rupees ex-showroom, you’ll have to pay 10% of the car’s price tag in tax. If it costs more than that, then you’re looking at 15% tax rate for your car.

Road Tax Fees in West Bengal

West Bengal road taxes are not based on the ex-showroom price of the car, but rather on the engine size of the car. You’ll either have to pay 5.5% of the car’s value or a fixed amount based on the tax slab, whichever value is higher. This, however, is a one-time tax valid for 5 years only. If you wish to register your car for a tenure of 15 years, you’ll have to pay either 10% of the car’s value or a slab-based fixed payment, depending on which one is higher.

You’ll also be paying an additional tax if you register a second car under your name.
